Morning HR, boy you are up early, you must have done your last post at 4am, unless you have moved to the states.
Your point of five mounted companies, is the point I am trying to make on the "centre of gravity" thread, any Indians either on foot or mounted in the deep coulee area, would not stop such a move, as 210 mounted making straight for the high ground, would take some stopping.

Thanks again Mike. First just to stay on track I will note that the warriors were not on Calhoun Hill but opposite Calhoun Hill. Gall saw "Custer"(Calhoun) moving slowly "was in no hurry" along the ridge, when "Custer"(Calhoun) saw Gall he approached and moved to Skirmish line, and archaeology says this was low on the slope of Calhoun Hill.
You say "It's 613 meters from Battle Ridge to Calhoun Hill." and I happy to go with that. We do not know where Calhoun was when he saw Gall and his associates. This is something to add to your to do list . If they were traveling in support along Battle Ridge, and the spacing between Company L and Company C is around 300 meters then the numbers are not that crazily out given the circumstance. Calhoun may feel obliged to confront Gall and then Company C catch up later. Naturally the timing matters, but at this time, with those men, this seems reasonable.
Cheers

Mac, I don;t say the Indians were on Calhoun Hill. It is merely the objective for the bound. The point is if C is overwatching L from the center of Battle Ridge and L is 499 meters away from him AND the Indians start firing from Calhoun Hill, then C can't do anything, but has to move.
If L stops around the 300 meter point, and I moves past him, then they are all supported and protected.
