So now that we are getting down to the wire for trips to Rapid City and LBH-who is still going to be able to make the trip?

Tom I bet you are probably heading down for breakfast about now, may I suggest some muesli and fresh orange juice followed by a boiled egg with toasts, finished off with coffee?

I headed out at 6:30 this morning and am now sitting at the Bozeman Trail Steakhouse in Buffalo, WY waiting for my French dip sandwich. I'm going as far as Sheridan today. Fred and the boys are flying into Billings tomorrow and I'll meet them there around noon. We always start off our trips with a supper and beer night at the Montana Brewing Company. If you're around Billings tomorrow night (June 16) stop by. We'll be easy to spot. Then driving over to Rapid City on Friday.

Yan A real man like Tom would have a shot of rye, no ice just straight, and a couple of raw eggs and some Worcestershire sauce in a glass of beer! He will expel all the bad humors and feel better. Regards Dave

True Dave, just wanted to give him the healthy option to start the day, but if he is going to be traipsing around the countryside or "uphill & down dale" as they say in Yorkshire, then he may want a large steak cooked rare with two fried eggs and a glass of milk, I myself have started the day with a bacon butty.

All, 103 today when I left Hardin, wind 25-30, Summer sauna weather. What I am attaching is more important. The gentleman I am writing about has done much to preserve our history. Met him last year at Lynchburg, have seen him on numerous TV Docs. he is a WWII vet, you can look him up on Wikipedia. THIS WON'T TAKE LONG TO FILL OUT! Thank you in advance. secure3.convio.net/cwpt/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=185Regards, Tom

Tom You are a fortunate man to meet a true American hero in Ed Bearss. While he was assigned to the Vicksburg National Military Park he and associates discovered the USS Cairo which sank in December 1862 in the Yazoo river. He also discovered 2 forgotten and lost Confederate forts, Cobun and Wade, that were designed to protect Grand Gulf during Grant's campaign to close the Mississippi River to the South.
I have never met the man but Shelby Foote thought the world of him and was proud to be his friend and down here that means alot. Regards Dave

103? nothing like experiencing what must have been close to real conditions at the battlefield. Perhaps in the pursuit of reality everyone should put on period uniforms, limit their food and water intact and not sleep for the next few days.

Well Tom, what's the latest on every ones favorite diminutive saddle clown? Were the Real Birds able to show him some new riding moves and courtesies? The world wonders if he went west or fled back east to his subterranean hindquaters? Regards Dave

85 degrees today. Great breakfast, Steve keeps spending money on books, Diane was charming, Fred was Fred, met Gerry at the cavalry camp, Capt. Pretend was not in sight, went to Fetterman and Rosebud Battlefields. Evidently the mad monk(Capt. Pretend) or what ever you wish to call him showed up, after I departed. He had a conversation with Richard RealBird which ended abruptly with Richard refusing the offered hand.
