It seems that 3,700 M1 tanks are in storage. All USMC M1A1s retired in 2021, to be divested by 2025. M1A1: Production started in 1985 and continued to 1992 = 4,976 built for the U.S. Army, 221 for USMC, 59 M1A1 AIM SA sold to Australia. In 2020 the Marine Corps announced disbandment of its tank units. All 450 Marine Corps M1 Abrams transferred to the U.S. Army and withdrawal from Marine Corps service completed in May 2021. Spit and Polish.

Link won't work HR, oh I mean serenace, sorry old chap
The way they are capturing Russian tanks, they won't need the M1s, the soviets are simply leaving them behind along with tons of ammo.

Vladimir Putin has delayed a national address to the Russian people that had been due to take place on Tuesday evening – his first since the start of the war in February.

I found the link to be good. It's the overt defence site and an article on the Abrahms. Just search Abrahms on the site.

I would wager you are going to see M1A1's and perhaps even later versions sporting Blue and Yellow within a year.
Ian is also correct. The Russian Army in Ukraine is a giant army surplus store. You don't even need your Visa or Master Card.
Putin is in full panic mode. Dictators don't normally feel an urgent need to address their people, unless urgency is the need to stir them up.
No need to get bullish on Ukraine's advances just yet. Russian may still consolidate just enough to produce a temporary stalemate as winter fast approaches.
When your winning the winning speaks for itself, when you are losing there are no words that need saying.
Do you mean to tell me that Seranace is not that gorgeous creature depicted in the photograph? Say it isn't so. I was falling in love with her more with each of her postings. Shucks and double shucks. You are an evil creature HR, and I will not soon forget your evil intent that broke my heart. Of course I fell in love with the ducks too.

So, Putin has vowed to call up 300.000 reservists, that’s another 300.000 troops to look after through a long Russian winter.
I think that I am correct in saying that the Ukrainian army is almost entirely made up of Soviet equipment, for example, small arms, support weapons, artillery and ammo, so any captured will be able to be returned to the Russians in the shape incoming fire.
The Russians used to pride themselves of producing weapons with different calibres to those used by their enemies, in WW2 the Germans used 7.92mm rounds, mortars were 80mm, divisional artillery was either 75mm, 105mm and 150mm.
The Russians used 7.62mm rounds, mortars were 82mm, divisional artillery was either 76mm, 120mm and 152mm. This allowed for any captured stock to be useless to any invader.
The Ukrainians will be able to fill their boots with captured Russian ordinance and put it to good use.

Soory QC, my login failed and that's what happened. Kinda neat really. Unrequited love can drive you quackers. It seems that 30,000 Russian frontline troops cycling for the hills, border and home, is more than Putin Propoganda can cope with. The problem he faces now is equiping, training, deploying and maintaining a force 10 times that which just gave in, up, and over. The next disaster will simply be ten times larger. It'a just a great big con on the people who have no choice but vote for him and do anyway, even if they don't. LikeUkraine can't do winter warfare..... Moscow by Christmas and nukes be damned. Use one Vlad, I dares ya! I double dare ya!

Ian: What you say is true regarding Russian weapons sysyems. I don't know if the Russians deliberately did it that way, I have never seen anything that would lead me that way or not. What I do know though is despite the different sizes and so forth the Germans made very effective use of captured equipment and ammunition stocks, especially captured tanks and artillery.
HR: I think you are pretty much correct here. Putin may have 300K more troops at his disposal, but it is not having them that is important, it is how you use them. Ukraine indeed can do winter warfare, probably better that the R's, if for no other reason than it is on their territory. Winter slows you down though, and the colder it gets, the slower you get.
As to equipping and reequipping the U Army, while it is largely Russian equipment, slowly western designs are being introduced into their inventory. Just last night after I posted the M1 speculation above, I was watching MSNBC and Alex Wagner had a Ukrainian female combat medic on live in New York with her, and the interview was about ten minutes. I distinctly heard her say that the U's were hoping to get some Abrams tanks. This soldier was in a full camo uniform with blue/grey beret, and looked like a recruiting poster. She is here drumming up support for the U's. Like Seranace I would drive a goddamned tank for her anytime and anywhere she damned well pleased. Needless to say, my attention regarding the Abrams was a bit secondary to my attention to the soldier herself. She also made very positive remarks on the M777 howitzer, and said the HIMARS was a game changer.
The Russian Army is a victim of its own corruption, regardless of how many reservists are called up.
Loved Donald HR. Thanks for that it made my day.

Flights out of Russia sold out fast following the announcement by thr Eminent P. Send 150k troops to invade U and suffer considerable difficulties bordering upon the revenge of the m.youtube.com/watch?v=U_1aJaCzKIc 7 months later, hmmmm let's send twice as many troops with half the equipment. Russians don't want the fight. Ukraine won't give in. Dear Vlad, sell when your iq hits 27.

HR: When you adversary is digging himself into a really big hole, give him a larger shovel, and stand and watch.
The fight in the dog is what counts, and their ain't a hell of a lot of fight in the Wolfhound that I can see. He has no frigging Alpo, and is starving himself to death. Putin must win before he runs out of stuff, and the U's have only got to avoid catistrophic defeat. Big difference in that one does not have time on their side, and the other has it all on theirs. Can you say Fabian?

I can't see those Russian reservists and conscripts having much of a fight in them, the Ukrainian resolve we see them through, but Putin's idea of having a vote in the areas now controlled by Russia will be a different worry, as those ballots will be rigged. If there is an escalation, it will be after these ballots and a Russian puppet installed by Putin, as they will vote in his favour. If the Ukranians carry on trying to capture these areas after the ballot, Russia will bring its heavy gear into the fight, as they will claim it an attack on Russian soil.
It will then be make or break time for Putin and the world will see how far he will go.

Don't ever underestimate the Russian soldier Ian. He will fight for the Rodina until his last breath. What we do not know is if he will fight for Putin's pipe dream.
Not paying much attention to his political moves with regard to those seized areas. He will try. he will succeed, but in the end he will fail. It is a very obvious attempt to shore up support, not in those seized provinces, but rather at home with his own people. When you play the con game to that extent, you're not winning.
You first kick the bear in his balls, then slit his gizzard, and make chitlins out of his guts. That's how you win. No mercy, just old fashioned killing. You must, in all your military undertakings convince the other guy never to try it again.

Boy HR you were not kidding about the flights out of Russia being full. Protests are ongoing as well. Looks like Mr. P's mobilization is going as well as his war.
