I saw parts of the putin show, couldn't watch it all as it made me want to 🤮.
I heard him rip into the usa, mention the atomic bombs and Vietnam, plus Afghanistan too. If I was the us representative in the un, I would mention some of the soviet beauties over the last 70 odd years, like the subjugation of all of Eastern Europe, which i mentioned to my 17 year old grandson, because he had no idea it happened.
Plus the russian invasion of Afghanistan and the destruction of Syria, two more episodes in the history of Russia.
Russia has had a lot of blood on its hands the last 80 years, ask the baltic nations, poles and Finns.

Ian: Engraved in stone on the entrance to the main National Achives Building in Washington D.C. is the phrase "What is Past is Prologue". The meaning is both stark and quite simple - If you wish to understand the present, seek those answers in the past. Russia for at least the past 500 yeats has been ruled as a totolitarian state, ruled for the most part by men who are simply mad with power. Never trust, or associate yourself, with people in any station in life who believe the rules of civilized behaviour do not apply to them. We see Putins arising all over the world today. We see it in Italy, Hungary, China, Venezuela,Iran, throughout Africa, and the greater Middle East, as well as Russia. Now none but two of them present any real military threat to the democratic west. Hungary, Italy, and Venezuela are not about to invade anyone that I know of, but even they are like a cancer deep in a person's bowels. They will, if left unchecked grow, and eventually kill western ideals and institutions. Thankfully we rid ourselves of one such person in our own midst here in the United States, but he still requires vigilance lest he regains strength.
Look to the past, as illustrative of the pathway that must be followed as we go forward into our future. Democracy and western values must be nursed and watered (sometimes watered in blood) just as you would tend to the flowers in your back garden. Left unattended, like your roses democracy will wilt and die.

Things are looking trickier for Putin and his allies don't play nicely, nor does he. The bigger picture here is the superiority of true democracies where the electorate is watching and the government needs to be capable of maintaining the order of the administration and the just rule of law to be elected. Autocracy has no such requirements.

The defence analyst's this morning were saying that if he loses Kherson then he loses control of all the Kherson region, the one which he has just put a puppet in charge.
All this will be a major embarrassment to putin as a strong leader, so I think we will see something bigger from him as he is losing face. And that's the worry.

Looking more and more like Ukraine can get in a good position before winter isn't it.

The order of the day for the Ukrainian Army should be pursue and destroy in zone, and stop only when the reach the Russian border or the Black Sea.
Most probably the present offensive will run out of stteam on its own accord. Most do, but there is also a chance if the U's keep on moving at the present pace that the R's will suffer a complete collapse. Not saying that will happen but it could before winter. If winter does come I see no halt in fighting on the horizon. Winter makes it a little more difficult to maneuver, but does not stop it. In most cases the colder it is the better it is for an offensive force. The ground is frozen, and as such solid. Tanks like solid ground. General Mud in the spring is what must really concern both sides.
The southern region is where the decisive battles will be fought.
