The BBC reports HERE scratch the surface of Russian defensive perimeters holding Ukraine's forfeited lands, and goes into a bit of detail. Minefields everywhere and surprisingly, dragon's teeth which aren't really that effective once it is understood how easily they are overcome. Of course, this is dour dogged slugfest type warfare which Europe always descends into because with minor exceptions, no one nation has sufficient numerical superiority to dominate. That aside, it does seem to be a difficult problem for Ukraine to break up and through and is what Russia does as, lets see, Kursk showed in 1943. Why not go underneath................ ?

Seems like a useful little gadget.
On a somewhat larger issue, though related to your post HR, I reported to you some time ago about the proposed restructure of U S Army divisions between now and 2030. Those plans were developed before the war in Ukraine broke out. I am pretty well convinced by now, given the emerging technologies from that war if the U S Army should go back to the drawing board. Those plans I mentioned create a target rich environment of command and control nodes, that are just ripe for the picking by drones with ill intentions.

I agree. The thinking was literally whack a mole. A flotilla of general purpose mules running around on supply missions which can surge, or take on ad hoc targets as required. Bangs for beans rather than bucks. I'm just not certain about the SBD dive brake concept to vector thrust but am straying from your point. Mine was getting logistics and re-supply onto drones which can be armed at the drop of a hat, or carry a fist all the time. As long as you know where they are, launching a strike is a signal away. If there are enough of them netwoking supply missions. No crew. Minimal maintenance, and on and so forth. Hows are things and what are you sticking together at the moment

Things are just fine and at the moment I have two projects on the bench. The first is an Israeli M-1 Super Sherman, actually a French M4A1 brought into Israeli service around 1955 and given upgrades. They are also referred to as ISHERMANS. The second is also a Sherman, an M4A3 Jumbo (Extra armor added to a standard M4A3) and it is marked as a rather famous tank COBRA KING the first tank into Bastogne. Lots of good photos of that tank on the net and elsewhere and I have all the standard markings applied (bumper numbers, correct position of the stars etc.) What I do not have yet is Cobra King and the chalked on First in Bastogne. They are available as aftermarket decals and I have them on order.
Whack a Mole is exactly how we must position our forces on any future battlefield. Battle groups must be relatively small (around 1500 all ranks) and totally self contained, being logistically semi-independent (that's one area for your log drones). The must not present a large target and they must have C&C that can stay on the move constantly.
I trust all is well with you and yours?

Doing OK but the fat ladies are in tears....... We enjoyed a peacful wet week at a converted barn in the middle of north Devon without immaculate conception and things are pretty chilled for now. Well, well, well............ Jumbo I had thought the turret was never made over in the WW!! Shermans. Well, well, further - link I assume that restoration at Ft. Nox left it gold plated. No German would have dared shoot up a solid gold tank Here's a rare Achilles HC Source T-23 link We live and we learn.

The expertise for this stuff has existed and transforms rapidly already HERE driving wheels on tarmac. Switch this into running fans for lift and thrust and there ya go. Power at the moment equals early Huey type capability. Of course, the airforce might have a bee or two in bonnets about it but with no crews it ain't none of their business. WAM

Regen. Battery packing............ the future of transport. What is Regen.........? Well, those who just love tekkie bleeding edge - Enjoy 40 minutes of bliss perhaps one day Ft. Bliss, for those with simple need to know mindset, go to about 18 minutes into the video. Power, energy, overkill and perfomance. In terms of WAM then consider those electric engines turning sets of twinned contra-rotating highspeed fans. Sort of like the AV8 but battery and electric. 2,000lbs cargo and Wammo........... an airborne jeep and.......... no crew. Nav and altitude can actually be done with the capabilities in modern cell phones. Think of it as mule that can do pretty much anything in the field. You just know that everyone and there mother wants to fly one, or stick a squad of men in it but no......... it is unmanned and that, folks, saves a ton of money and enhances capability beyond anything ever before in the field. Just let a few combat engineers play with it and............ well, that would be fun. So, how much would one of these cost? Let's ask Elon...............

Study of ducted axial flow contra-rotating electric fan engines * is mushrooming as the future of electric travel arrives and it will of course be heralded by military application. Israel is ramping up effective and actual laser anti-missle defence (LAM-D) and the same will crunch out, when neccesity calls for *DAFCEF's. The study HERE parallels innovations with Formula E motor racing design and technology, in the given case with design compared against a state of the art 135 hp four-cylinder four-stroke, horizontally-opposed, turbocharged, air and liquid-cooled, gasoline engine design. It's fascinating stuff and further considered HERE The DUCK throws up more.Of course WAM ain't no high speed doodlebug type bleeding edge stallion of a throroughbred, no siree.............. it's just state of the art bog-standard flying truck. One without pilot or crem. Whoa boy..... steady there. Doesn't even need oats. Think electric Huey

Interesting article.
