The 17 pdr ATG was rushed to North Africa in Early 1943 to counter the threat of German Tiger tanks, this decision was made before they completed work on the guns carriage which resulted in the use of the 25 pdr carriage being used as a stop gap. These guns were known as 17/25 pounders and given the code name “Pheasants”.
