Jesus Christ Ian, you have just pissed off half the city of Boston. Their basketball team is not called the Celtics for nothing you know, and they have the largest chapter of the IRA in this country. Good for you Ian,Guinness is not all it's cracked up to be.

Lots of interesting stuff being found about human genetics. Bottom line is genetics says, like it or not, we are all one big, not so happy, family. Cheers

Say it ain't so Mac. PLEASE. You mean I might be genetically connected to a Confederate? What an intolerable state of affairs that is.

I reckon if they checked my DNA, I will be Scandinavian.
That is why me and noggy get along so well.
Mac, can you trace your DNA back to Europe?
I know you have got a lineage to Europe too Chuck.

So QC, my wife has Hanover (Germany) connections. Then again she is also related to Donald Trump through his Scottish ties . Ian I am Scandinavian through my Great Grandfather who was a Dane. I like to channel my Viking heritage . The rest of me is a mixture of Orange Irish, Green Irish (heady mix!). A very good spread of free settlers and convicts. The news for all Europeans is that some of your DNA comes from your Neanderthal relatives. Of course we are all originally African. Death blow to racism when you understand that. I think we best stop or start a new thread. Move it all there if you like Ian. Forgot to mention Ian, I am (distantly) related to the Lady Diana Spencer and Harry doesn't speak to me either.
Cheers my extended family.

I really don't care about my lineage. It has nothing to do with who I am. I'm an American.

I quite agree. Mine were probably all horse thieves, that escaped the hangman anyway, best forgotten.

I am with you too Mike, when Joe Biden said to the BBC reporter that he was Irish, I nearly fell off my chair, I am probably more Irish then him, but I am English, proud to be part of this sceptred land, this Jewel in the crown.
Our team are playing Scotland later, a bunch if pirates from north of the border, a place where men are men and sheep are nervous. I will be standing proud behind the men in red and white. C'MON ENGLAND!!!!!

Thank you all for a truly enjoyable and light morning read. Not completely where I expected my pre trip post to go, but cerebral for sure.
Ian you having so much Irish lineage can explain the following. My wife decends from the Black Irish and I am just black hearted, extending back to 1066, sadly from th losing side.
Regards, Tom

Morning Tom, my Irish blood is so diluted now it flows red and white, not a touch of green in sight. I bet if I had a DNA test I would probably turn our Scandinavian or even from Brittany.
1066 was a black day, but we gave it a good go against a mercenary army complete with cavalry. We had to walk 200 miles to fight the Danes at Stamford bridge then walk back again and fight the Normans.
William I, was a bad master who murdered and taxed the British, so it was a sad day for all English men.

Talk about thread drift! I became interested in my family tree a number of years ago when I took part in a DNA study because of my CML (Chronic Myloid Leukemia to those who may not be familiar with it) because it is caused by a genetic mutation. It's been a very interesting journey that includes the Sherman family and beyond William the Conqueror and the Battle of Hastings to France on my material grandmother's side but more limited on the other branches because they have more humbler roots that are difficult to trace. My cousin is currently working on our Slovenian side which isn't easy because of language barriers. We know there is Maygar in their but who knows what else.
Now what was original topic of this thread?

I believe the original conversation is about how almost everyone alive today can trace his ancestry to Genghis Khan.

Christ I though we could all trace our ancestry to Alfred E. Neuman. He crossed at Ford D before the was a ford, even before there was a D.
Poop, wrong again. It was Harvey that crossed before there was a ford, and Neuman was the one who was around before even Big Bird thought of the Letter D.
Just started re-reading Company Commander for about the twentieth time. Maybe it was MacDonald that did the crossing, or was he the one who had the farm. I am so confuesed.
