All normal mask will do is restrict the germs you project out of your nose and mouth, rather like using a hanky to sneeze into then just blasting it everywhere.
I have never heard the story about catching it through you eyes, but I was issued with a plastic visor to ware in the surgery, which now has been take away.
One aspect we do take seriously, is the wearing of disposable gloves and hand gel, as we are touching areas which could be covered with virus, imaging a hand plate on a communal door, how many times are people walking through that door, touching that plate and door handle and in a medical building.

I get my shot today. We were able to get some groceries on Sunday-not our favorite chain but you sometimes you can't be choosy. Next shot will be in 3/4 weeks. No word on when Steven gets his shot. They have a really slick system going for the shots where you go to a large sports complex and they sort the cars into queues (I am unsure how many queues there were at least 8 probably more) even with the required 15 minute wait it took us about 45 minutes to get through the line and out.

Actually according to WebMD you can catch it through your eyes if someone sneezes on you. Web MD I didn't realize it but it makes sense. Just another reason to wear a mask.

The main reason for wearing a mask, as I see it, is an outward sign that you respect your fellow man, while you are out in public.
As I understand it face shields, as Ian describes them, are standard medical practice. I recall at least twice when I have had surgery, that everyone on the operating team were fully equipped with face shields, and wore masks under the shields. That was long before COVID.
What I did find interesting is a report on NPR a few nights ago saying in essence that the flu was next to nothing this past season, and CDC attributes that to wide spread mask wearing.

Well. We went back to wargaming in a group, not wearing mask because we were all senior military professionals or law enforcement people. The host continually (a marine) continually railed against wearing masks (and also played Rush Limbaugh all the time). Then in the middle of a game he sneezed without turning head, using elbow, hand, or down his shirt. Not only did it upset the wargame, i felt droplets all over my face and arms. I haven't gone back. It's a sign of courtesy and the realization that stuff dissapates.
Maybe I should see if I can get old M25 tanker's masks. Full face shield, a place to put glass inserts, a canister carried at your side instead of sticking out of your mask.

He should be put in the towns stocks for that, really! Then everyone can pelt him in rotten fruit. We still have our old stocks, they are located in the parish of Cronton.
I have never board gamed Mike, the closest I have come is the game called "risk" back in the 70s. I really enjoyed gaming WW2 in 1/72, but I do have a lot of fond memories of playing 25mm Napoleonic's. I had a French and Bavarian army, but I couldn't beat the British, turned over the Prussians and Austria's a few times and even beat the Russians, but British fire power was too strong.

Ah, I can bet you never used Dunn-Kempf when it was out. 1/285 tank miniatures on nifty terrain boards. Best thing was it was in the area of my squadrons maneuver rights area. At the time platoon leaders got to go to the field once a month for two days, the troop would go out for a week once a month. And the squadron would go out once a quarter.
I'd rehearse the ftx using the game, go out and do it, then do an AAR afterwards. This was,all in addition to alerts, usually good for a three day exercise and gunnery four times a year, which was usually good for an FTX going and coming.

Back in the day Fort A. P. Hill had a whole building devoted to Dunn-Kempf. Must have had a couple of thousand pieces of armor and other vehicles, made by GHQ, I think. Never played it, but watched a couple of hours worth of play. More suited for armor training than Infantry, but it was interesting to watch.

I thought I had a download of the rules on my computer, but dang if I can find it. Its for sale at a nominal price, but without the terrain boards and the hordes of minatures, there would be a lot of work to play a game.

I have turned a corner on my plumbing repair and it is now scheduled for 7 June. After putting up with this crap for 6 months already, that is a piece of cake. Cost is 14,900 and includes removal/reinstall of fixtures, does not require me to remove my kitchen cabinets or remodel my bathrooms. I do have to my stuff around for access, but I've already been doing that. They will have one bathroom ready for use at the end of the first day. They replace removed drywall and "all" I have to do is paint, tile, and put new flooring down. Throw rugs will cover the bare concrete flooring while I ponder how to proceed.
I am still pretty stressed out, but can see the objective and avenue of approach and will be able to concentrate more on pleasurable topics relatively soon.

Sometimes, it is worth thinking outside the box. A small shovel and bottle of THIS daily, all your troubles will just vanish.

I would suggest that our planning for these home grown events stopped long before George W. Bush was in office. It stopped sometime around when we were kids and told to hide under our desks in grade school as a means of mitigating an atomic blast. We have never been very good at it, no matter what the potential crisis might be. I think democracies in general are all like that, and I'll be damned if I know why. What this nation needs is what my mother always said will prevent everything, a good healthy dose of cod liver oil. Of course my mother's remedy for drowning was - don't ever swim. If any of you think I am kidding about these two matriarchal dictums - I'm not Figuring out how to make money out of it is usually an effective means to the end. Cynical? Yes. Realistic also. Being bright helps. I say this because I just noticed the numbers coming out of Brazil and it seems they are beyond help. They may be the first nation to develop herd immunity. That will make around 10-20 million very sick and all at the same time and kill around 20% of said 10-20 million.

Have you had your first vaccine yet HR? Yo Feb 5 primer. No probs. Temp up slightly after about 6 hours. Stomach loose a day and I now have a third leg. Booster due shortly. I hope for an arm to match the leg.
