Ian, these are very special guys. David Archibald Stirling, Bob Bennett, Jock Lewes, Pat Riley, and others interviewed in the 1980's. Lewes was alluded to, however, he died in 1941. Tell me more. Quite a special group.
I have spent th last two weeks cutting trees and brush, rained today so I watched some TV.
Regards Tom

I agree Tom, very special men indeed! Jock Lewis was an early casualtie, he sadly bought it in 1941 link
The rain has been bad over here, local flooding etc, lucky enough we are on high ground. The weather is more like Autumn.

Thanks, Ian, more than I could pull up here in one place. I did find that in some quarters that some feel that the Irishman deserves the V.C.
Thanks for the link.
Regards, Tom

If you want to read more about Mayne, and many others of the same stripe, I would recommend, "The Phantom Major", "Popski's Private Army", "Fighting With Popski's Private Army", "Providence Their Guide". and "Fire In The Forest". There are others, but none quite as good.
If you are so inclined and wish some knowledge of the same type of operations East of Suez, then I would highly recommend "Only The Jungle Was Neutral"
