Ian, thank you so much. Hesitated to come in as I promised Chuck to do some work for the site - haven't been able to concentrate on it - know you all will understand. I'm not trying to be obscure - just looks that way!
My best to everyone here and your families, c.

I wasn't worried> He went to a Mackin class reunion and could not find the venue. He has been wondering around 14th and Chicken Bone for the last three months, not knowing that the gala event was in the Princeton Hotel.

It always nice to gather all the gang and count noses. Chris your are missed and without you to balance Tom I fear we are at his mercy. Scary very scary. Come on back and post once a week at least. I know that I personally can post something you would object to without any other poster's help! Regards Dave

Hey you lot, I am currently watching a TV series called "The Last Kingdom" it is based on the novels by Bernard Cornwell and we know how good his Sharpe books were, it has some really good actors and a few stars too, so the BBC have threw some decent money into it, I am not sure if it was shown in the USA on BBC America, so see if you can catch it. link

It's being carried on BBCA in the US on Saturdays. Now you make me wish that I had been watching it.

Try and catch it from the start Beth, you could probably find it on line if you can down load torrents, episode three is being shown tonight at 9:00 so I hope it quietens down outside because it is Bonfire Night here and it sounds like I am under attack by Assad's forces.

If you are undergoing anything like the barrage of fireworks they do in my current neighborhood you have my total sympathy. I used to love the 4th and fireworks but believe me there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

In the Keogh sector where the markers are you cannot see in any direction other than north. If,as may be likely, the warrior assaults on Company C then Company L quickly become mainly hand to hand fighting and a pursuit north then the first Company I may know of the action is when it spills in on them. This would account for them being bunched and not showing any formation. A thrust through the gap would then trap them in that swale area with only those able to quickly head north escaping. I think this is where I stand here. Cheers

Mac, now according to some of the data I have (and some of this is old), there were only 10 men recognised on LSH that were from Keogh’s three companies and these were all privates, and their names are;
Private Y. Stungewitz (C Company) Private W. Wright (C Company) Private E. Driscoll (I Company) Private A. McIlhargey (I Company)* Private J. Mitchell (I Company)* Private J. Parker (I Company) Private F. Hughes (L Company) Private C. McCarthy (L Company) Private O. Pardee (L Company) Private T. Tweed (L Company)
* These men were sent as couriers by Reno so they may have already been on LSH and still with the HQ because if Custer had sent them back to their respected company (I) then what would be the odds on both of them making in out alive and escaping the net to reach LSH.
Some sources say that around 55 men lay dead around Custer’s position, F Company had 38, the HQ about 12 of 14 plus another 10 from Keogh’s battalion takes us up to around say 60, but some of the men from F and the HQ were found in other areas, so it depends on what and where you perceive as the boundaries for the Custer sector. For ten men to get through from around 120 would suggest that these men could have been still mounted or they fled the area before the Indians tightened the noose.

Interesting list! I note 4 from Company L which makes me wonder if they were a 4 where 3 from the line managed to get to their mounts earlier enough to escape. Also the small number of Company I men makes me more certain they were not mounted when the assault hit them. Cheers
