I propose - gingerly - we use this map from 1891 - not google or other maps - as a reference for future discussion of places because (1) it has contour lines making it easier for current day users to correlate it with modern topographic map or google maps, we can establish reference markers based on intersections of the lat long lines, and then give locations in terms of a compass directions (N, S, E, W) or in degrees and a distance (either meters using the map scale or in inches. For example:
From Reference Point 1 (whatever it may be) 225 degrees and 1250 meters (or XX inches) establish CP 6 which is my guess for the location of Ford D.
I am going to attempt to overlay this map on a current 1:24000 map of the region, but it may take me a while. Since this map shows both Miles and KM and has known points, I should be able to do this fairly easily. This will let allow us to use this near period map better in conjunction with current maps. Other's could then post useful reference point such as the "W", the car wrecks, the cafe, the abandoned ruin, etc. We don't need too many of these however. Then when discussing a place in a different thread, users will be able to look at this map and understand better the location. This may also cut down on the number of graphics inserted into threads, cutting down on the memory cost which might make Beth a little happier.
I propose the following:
Checkpont Location
1 Intersection of the LAT LONG Lines 107 25 and 45 33 which is near the word "FORD" which is presumably Ford B.
2 Monument Location
3 Reno's Entrenchment (the center of the small circle within the ( o )
4 Ford A Location of the gap in the vertical line in the LBH near the location marked "FORD"
5. Ford B Location just below Check Point 1 near the word "FORD"
