Ian, there has already, today, been an air incursion by Chia over Taiwan.
I am sure no one remembers that, in 1994 assurances Were given by Bill Clinton and other Western leaders, that if Ukraine gave up their nukes, we would protect them.
Hell, how can a country that can't protect it's own borders, from illegal aliens, ever to be trusted to do anything about somebody's else's border.

Let's just hope that a Russian weapon does not disturb the Chernobyl site, located in Ukraine, by accident.

Funny enough Tom, reports have come in that Ukraine national guard units are defending Chernobyl from a soviet attack.
It looks like putin is playing "chicken" with the U.S., so China will be watching and will definitely try their hand with Taiwan.

To continue with the above thought. Prior to the invasion the US was importing 595,000 barrels of oil from Russia, in essence putting money Putin's war chest. The Keystone Pipeline before being shut down was moving 837,000 barrels of oil to the Midwest and to a crushing plant in Oklahoma. The President shut that down day one, along with canceling oil leases. What I am saying is that the same pen that was used January of 2021 could be used to ease world wide energy prices and take money out of Putin's pocket. Rather than use this in conjunction with sanctions, the President chooses to pander to the hard left of his party. Just one of the cabals.
Even with the above issues, we still have enough liquefied natural gas to share with Europe. I am sure that the President offered this to our partners.
Sanctions are unfortunately are a two way street, Russia could cut back or shut down energy products to Europe and make up much of their sales in China. Palladium is another commodity which could hurt, needed for semiconductors. There a few more.

I saw both the Ukraine and soviet ambassadors at the UN, the Ukraine ambassador was sending daggers over to the ruskies, I thought he was going to take off his headphones, walk across the room and take out a glove and slap him across the chops and say "get outside" Then knock the hell out of him!

Look, I know I sound like a hater regarding the handling of this mess on our part, but it is the Ukrainian people who are suffering most and will continue to do so. People attempting to get out are having to pay bribes to cross the border. I fear the Russians will in fact weaponize the refugees attempting to get out. Hostages if you will.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all the Ukrainians and those stranded.
I will take a line from a very old movie, "never give a sucker an even break." If the the ambassador wants to knock the hell out of the Ruskie, don't give him a warning slap, just kick the dog shit out of him. There is no such thing as a fair fight.

Much well thought out criticism and for the most part fair, even where I may not agree. I am in fact not a hater, and my expressed opinions do not go past our shores/waters edge. My oppinions are involved in what has happened here prior to this Russian invasion. We have shot ourselves in the foot with policies that have weakened us, those policies are this administrations.
You and I both served this country to support freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, demonstration, security, and overall service and support of a great nation. I figure that I deserve the same rights as those I served.
I see the same political tribalism as you, but from a different perspective. I feel that the hard left held up and limited the Presidents options for sanctions. You and I both know that the assemblage of troops on the Ukrainian border began last March. You are also aware of Putin's July speech and ongoing saber rattling since. That saber rattling ramped up throughout the Fall.
I'm as aware as the of the deployments as you, maybe more so in that my youngest son is helping to ready some for deployment. I also received a call from a retired friend, living in Savannah, he has a son being sent. I worked briefly with him at Eglin/Hurlburt nearly 40 years ago.
The sanctions are in my opinion are too little too late. Hell we gave Russia the go ahead on a pipeline just last Spring, we could have jerked a month ago or more. Im also aware some of our NATO allies limited the sanctions, Germany and Italy to name two. The SWIFT Banking system removal would have been very effective.
You are right about my thuggery and it goes back a long way. You demand my lunch money in a school hallway and you get a bloody nose and I don't stop there I keep going, you see they might get a chance, you might even slam his head into the floor a few times, people think you're crazy and lay off. From then on you need be aware of your surroundings and watch your back. Then in High School when someone pokes you in the eye through your face mask, on purpose, when you are on the ground, you get up jerk his helmet off and hit him in the face with it and you get tossed. But, his laughter and pointing came to an abrupt stop. Shit happens. We won the game.
As an aside the 175th Wing has a new commander, as I understand it she is a class act and has her shit together.

My comment to Ian, regarding slapping first, was meant to say that if you have reason to strike do it. Don't dance around. I think anyone knows ambassadors at the UN is not the proper venue.
We are still getting one half million barrels today, because of a fucking pen stroke in January of 2021.
I live on the Chesapeake Bay, not the Atlantic.
You have taken a side as have I, they are different, you have the right to be wrong. I bear you no ill will. Just continue to watch MSDNC you will be supported in your opinions.
I have two Democrat Senators here in VA one ok, the other is jerk. You obviously previously drank the lefts Kool Aid, now it seems you are addicted to drinking Soki with P in it.
Not sorry, but sometimes, like you, I just can't help myself.

Look! I have been enjoying this conversation with Tom, you invited yourself so don't bring my name into, I am talking about the current situation in Ukraine not US politics. And by the way you should show more respect and loyalty to the founders of this board who have shown the upmost loyalty to you. We joined this board because you got kicked off the black board, we showed our loyalty to you, you showed most of us contempt.
Sorry about your dog, but I have been there and bought the T Shirt

First and foremost I am truly sorry about your dog, I raised Chocolate Labs for 16 years. My dogs I hunted with, lived with, they gave us unconditional love. I have held two in my arms and cried like a baby while they were put down, I breathed their last breath with them.
As far as fellow travelers go, we are all fellow travelers, we may travel different paths, but they are our paths. Certainly Ian an I are not attached at the hip in our opinions, but we see history unfolding before our eyes. Beth says at the board that the board is about other aspects of history not just the LBH, my words not hers.
I going to speak here about members that don't really know. Colt may have trained to protect the Fulda Gap, Mike probably had some of that same conventional training, Steve fought in jungles half a world away, you were trained to fight these same wars. I was trained primarily in support, but for an Air Force dude, my primary training came from the Army to support some in the field duties. One of my best friends, a ranger way trained to jump with a tactical nuke. Civilian support is critical and we again are all fellow travelers. Even enemies are fellow travelers. Just different paths.
Ian, my apologies for dragging your name into Purgatory. It was my intention to post something on topic, maybe I will get back to that later.
Regards, Tom

No need to apologise Tom, I have enjoyed it so far, bit of a blip this morning but we can get past that.
I see that Putins track record in the urban areas of kyiv is not good, he is blasting the hell out of civilian blocks, he is not discriminating with his choice of targets. So much for trying to win any hearts and minds of the people.
I can't belive India have abstaind from vetoing russian in the UN. So only them and China abstained.

India is being self serving, recently China has made incursions into to their country, not widely reported. They may see a Russian/China alliance as problematic. There is land there that China covets. Their oil is currently not an issue. Then again they may be India first for other reasons. I mentioned about yesterday that sanctions can be a two way street, they may need resources to make semiconductors, this is a large and growing business for them.

What we may be seeing in Ukraine may be related to the words of a speech your Winston delivered to the House of Commons in June of 1940. I'm sure you know of which I speak.

India are a growing nation, they still take aid money off the UK whilst having a nucler arsenal and a space program. Progress before their own people, not good in my mind, if you want to be looked upon as a strong and upright nation then you must look after you people. You are right about their border with China, the Chinese are not good neighbours, unless you are the USSR
I have to "doff my cap" to the Australians for standing up to the Chinese.
