The 2022 LBHA conference will be held in Culpeper, VA, I believe starting on 7/17. It will focus on GAC's actions and antics during the ACW. You know as much as anyone regarding the actions which took place in VA, you could probably, give a presentation, I know your Dad and friends traveled these locations often. Your children live in the area, and Steve and I would enjoy going to the Marine Corps Museum with you.
Kelly's Ford, Brandy Station, the battles around Fredericksburg, Manassas, and Yellow Tavern will surely be discussed. We could bring up Mosby and Trevillian Station, to add to the Custer love fest.
We will still be going to WY and MT in June.
Regards, Tom

I really could not care less about George Custer during the Civil War. I really don't give two hoots in hell about George Custer at any time of his life for that matter. Therefore I do not intend to ever be part of a conference or association, that glorifies a self absorbed man child, and one of the more mediocre officers in the United States Army. I would sooner study Benedict Arnold. At least he was a competent soldier, who had he not taken a shine to Peggy Shippen, would be right up there with George Washington, and Nathaniel Greene.
The battlefields at Kelly's, Brandy, Second Manassas (the first battle was nothing to write home to mother about) Bristoe, and Fredricksburg/Wilderness/Chancellorsville/Spotsylvania are must see places for those who have never seen them, but you damned well better budget a week if you want to see them right, and do about a years research into the battles themselves before you venture onto that ground. Failing to do the research means you have wasted both time, and motel rent. Yellow Tavern is a street intersection with a monument, but there is a good breakfast place about fifty yards away. I have done all those things, research and walking the battle areas, and have no desire to walk that much any more, even if I could, which I can't.
Mosby was overrated, but still important. No one could talk Mosby better than Pat Jones, and he is dead, but I can still read his book, which he most kindly signed for me. His book on the Rough Riders is a classic as well.
When next in Washington, it is my intention to visit the big three, Army, Navy, and Marine Museums. That may be next year, although depending upon when my granddaughter moves back east with her live in room mate and father of my great grandchild, probably Annapolis or Dam Neck, it may be year after next.
Until then I will study global warming, keep an eye on infrastructure, buy an electric car, beat my sword into a plow share, listen to Carmen at least ten times, and avoid the bridge over the Rubicon

I take it that is a no?
Personally I would love to see some of those sites as well as have a good excuse to see my niece who lives in Fredricksburg.

Well Beth, you can take it is don't hold your breath about me attending any of those Custer love fests. I would sooner walk over hot coals barefoot, or fall in love with Marjorie Main. I suppose that is a no.
I would love to take another trip to the battlefields, and I would highly recommend Fredericksburg as a central point and base of operations, for those battles mentioned. Most of the Civil War in 1862-64 was a fight for the Rappahannock/Rapidan river line, so Fredericksburg puts you smack dab in the middle of all that.

Fortunately Erik J Wittenberg will be hosting this event and setting up the tours for those that don't as much as Chuck does. I am not sure that the Indians presenters have the view that Chuck presents of this group. I know that Tom And I do not.
I look forward to the meeting and out annual trip to Montana. We hope spend some time in Cody, Wyoming also.
Regards
Steve

Chuck was born and raised in that area, and it is not what I know or do not know, it is that I am familiar with, both the battles and the terrain they were fought over.
Wittenberg is just another lawyer, turned "expert". His opinions will not save you one red cent when you pay for your coffee. He writes decently though.
I do not give a rat's patoot what Indians think of that group. I know what I think, and what I think is not complementary to a bunch of people whose mission in life seems to be belonging to a cult of personality centered on an officer who was immature, self serving, and largely incompetent. If you and Kitty Litter want to be part of that, be my guest. I gave up being a pretend Indian scout sometime around when I was seven years old, and later went on to pursue adult things, not regress to my childhood.

I suppose it does. As I said earlier last month dealing with you lately is like changing Kitty Litter. You are having to deal with shit, and it smells bad.
For your edification though. when I go to the opera, I expect my companions to be formally attired, not to inquire as to why the libretto is not in English, and not be surprised when they find there is no banjo player in the orchestra. Same goes with attending conferences. I don't care for cultists, and groupies. I much prefer the company of those who are more concerned about tactics and operational procedures, and pay little attention to Custer's horse's bowel movements.

It seems a shame that LBHA seems more involved with Custer than LBH. (or at least that is my impression) I would rather see an interest in studying and maintaining the land plus an honest look at all members of the 7th.

That is also my impression Beth, and that is why I want no part of the association or the people that belong to it.
My interest in LBH is very narrow, and that is a personal preference. What some person passed down from generation to generation, that in the end cannot be verified, holds no interest for me, nor does playing dress up. I outgrew that when my Roy Rogers cowboy suit went in the trash about seventy years ago. LBH for me is a case study, for tacticians, of what not to do. Rarely are so many mistakes made in the course of one Sunday afternoon.
The other thing that really bothers me, is that these conferences seem to draw all the "experts". My definition of anyone who sees themselves as an expert, is one who lacks the humility to share what he does not know. There are no experts. There are only some people who know more than others.

Wow, I did not realize an invite would cause such vitriol. Nor, did I think that it would expose your fecal fetish, in the space of a couple posts you mention "rat's patoot, kitty litter, shit, and Custer's horse's bowel movements." You bring up your scorn for people playing dress ups(reenactors) yet you spend your time building and painting your toy navy.
We've met, you may recall, and you talk about buying an electric car, first your size would make you uncomfortable in most and your weight would wreck the mileage and speed, not to mention put a strain on battery charging and if you wear the battery out, they are very costly.
You bring up the lack of humility of experts, you should look in the mirror, or read your own comments about opera. I will agree with one thing though, Teatro La Scala Opera House had no banjo's when I saw Rigoletto in 1966. I don't however look down on banjo music. You also mention self absorbed, again I say look in the mirror.
I think I can speak for Steve, here, you are still invited. Hell I still owe you a lunch, I guess I could bring you a death burger from the Trading Post, we would have to re-warm it though.
Coming from you I guess I am honored by the sobriquet.
Regards, Tom

One of these days you are going to understand that I do not wish to visit any battle field with amateurs, at least not you two amateurs. I have no interest whatsoever in what you two do. I think it a waste of time and effort. My preference is to talk tactics with tacticians, people schooled in the military arts and sciences.
You do not owe me a thing. I do not keep score.
I once thought of you as a fine fellow and pleasant companion, but you have turned bitter, vindictive, and quite mean. The bitterness, vindictiveness, and meanness disabused me of my former notions of you.

I really don't know how two blokes can fall out so badly on a board like this, you knew each other quite well too, I have only fell out with two blokes on these boards, the late DC because he was a twat, and the Irish fellow because he had a chip on his shoulder, but the reasons which you two are falling out over are simply insignificant.
