I just finished the Book "Cavalry" by Lewis Edward Nolan who wrote it prior to the Crimean War. You have probably seen the movie "The Charge of the Light Brigade" in which Nolan, played by David Hemmings, is shown as a somewhat boorshish, aggresive, and snobby (typical) cavalryman. He is given the job of carrying a message to the Light Brigade and is killed in the movie when trying to turn the Brigade to the correct target. historically, he is accussed of not delivering the message correctly (changing it) but the jury is out as to what really happened. While the book has nothing to do with the LBJ and predates it by 22 years, it is a very interesting book and actually talks about tactics, somewhat unlike Upton's book on Infantry Tactics, and the still elusive Cavalry Tactics. In fact, I wish I had known about this book as a subaltern or cadet but I probably did not have the wisdom then to seperate good things from bad, adapt some of the information he presents to modern combat, or even understand it. It is a worthwhile read in any event. The sad problem is the diagrams are not reproduced in the Kindle Edition and I doubt they are in the print version from the same source. Nevertheless, there is information to be gleaned about cavalry tactics, some of which is relevenant today. No problems Mike! I will give you a tip, if you are looking for a book, put the title in google and write the letters "PDF", this will find any books in that format which you can read of even download for free. It doesn't work every time but you get around a 50-50 chance.

Yeah. I tried that and it didn't come up. Or: (more likely) it wasn't obvious to me. Thanks for the time though. It bears repeating.
