When I was a subaltern in the 11th Cavalry, we had this nifty wheel that showed effective/maximum ranges of weapons systems for us and the enemy as well as a template representing the deployment of a reinforced motorized rifle battalion in 1:50000 scale to use in planning fires and evaluating avenues of approach. Because I am a heavy guy, I think of cavalry troop (and to a lesser extent tank company team) battle positions and sectors as ranging easily from 2000 m to 5000m or sometimes event more. I liked to have maneuverability for my platoons. To keep me disciplined, after getting my stuff about Upton, I have been working on a easier to see full strength troop deployed as skirmishers, showing positions of leaders, reserves, horse holders, and notionally the trains. This is good for me, but then I reduced the thing to 1:24000 scale as you can see on the second slide. If you have good eye sight, squint, and zoom in, you might be able to see the little blue dots representing the troopers. The first screen has a key listing who is what. I'm a little mystified at the number of 51 for troopers since 48 would make more sense in terms of 4s. I detach one as the guideon bearer and the other two go with the reserves. It's in PowerPoint which I imagine most people have. Some of you may find it useful and other's less so.
