Ian,
I was watching a documentary last night about the British Army defeating the Japanese in Burma. I knew of Gen Wingate and his chindits, but they said the best general in the British Army was a General William Slim. Do you know of him and was he in fact the best your best General.
Be Well Dan

Hi Dan yes General Slim, he never got the praise the Generals in Europe did, mainly because his war was fought on the otherside of the word which he fought. He was a Brigade commander in 1939 (10th Indian Bde) and was stationed in East Africa. Then he took over the 10th Infantry Div in Syria. In 1942 he too over command of the newly formed 14th Army and the rest is history.
How are you Dan, got your jab yet? Take care. Ian

How are you Dan, got your jab yet? Take care. Ian No, my friend. I have been trying my best to get one, but I live in New Jersey which is a FUBAR state. There is no reason what so ever to live here unless you have to for family reasons. Hope you and Susan are doing well Be Well Dan

Dan: If you wish to know more about Bill Slim, read "Defeat Into Victory" which he wrote.
If you want to know more about the Chindits, my favorite on the second Chindit expedition is "Road Past Mandalay" by Jihn Masters.

God willing and the creek dont rise I will have time to get a gander at one of them. Your other suggestion about the Alamo "Blood of heroes" was a good pick. I enjoyed it. Be Well Dan

Dan: Do you not have a Safeway, Walmart, CVS or Walgreen's Drugs there in NJ. All we have to do is drop in, get our name put on the list, verify that we are of an eligible age, and wait until they call you to come in. Joan put her name on the list last Wednesday, got the shot on Friday, and today got an e-mail that scheduled he booster a month from now, this morning. That was at Safeway. She signed me up via e-mail this afternoon.
Bill Slim was an excellent general officer.
Another you may enjoy is "The Marauders" by Carlton Ogburn. Covers the American portion of the Second Chindit Campaign.
