I will usually attempt to define an acronym and explain it when I introduce it.
MDMP - Military Decision Making Process - the formal process for how a staff supports the commander's decision making.
11th ACR: ACR = Armored Cavalry Regiment, the 11th ACR is the 11th Cavalry Regiment formed (well after the Indian Wars). I was assigned there and from about 1975 - 1991 it guarded a part of the East-West German Border.
TOC - Tactical Operations Center.
FM22-5 FM = Field Manual. FM 22-5 is the Army Drill and Ceremony manual.
CG - Commanding General
NLT - Not Later Than
DP = Decision Point
COA = Course of Action.
Route Reconnaisse: A mission in which a force moves along a route to determine its trafficability and locate, fix, and clear enemy out to the limits of the maximum effective range of the enemy's systems. It is usually marked with an objective, but the objective is just to provide a focus for the movement. The unit seeks to penetrate the enemy security zone, determine the location of the enemy main body, find gaps, and if possible, exploit them to work deeper into the enemy rear. It is similar to Movement to Contact.
Movement to Contact: A mission is which a forces conducts when it is unsure of the enemy's location. The objective is to make contact with the enemy with the smallest possible force and then maneuver so as to fix or destroy him. Similar to Route Reconnaissance.
Screen: a mission in which a more mobile force protects the main force from observation by the enemy and it seeks to destroy enemy security elements. In the modern era, this is predominantly done with artillery fire.
