This thread was prompted by a behind the board discussion of comparison of Flu deaths vs Combat deaths. I knew that the flu deaths were much closer to actual combat deaths, not including the other deaths. As an example actual combat deaths in Vietnam were 47,424vs58,209 including other. I considered placing this in the "Wars of the Americas" thread, Beth if you feel it belongs elsewhere. I wish I could just put the tables, I'm just not smart enough, maybe Ian is. See Wiki article instead.

The stat I saw being thrown around on Facebook-the font of all important information stated that Covid 19 is higher than the deaths from the Vietnam War. Google says that US deaths are currently 60,823. The death toll from Vietnam combat and other was 58,208. Interestingly the causality level in WWI has a higher 'other' death toll than those would died in combat, which I wonder if it reflects the Spanish Flu. I have heard that at Fort Des Moines which is probably a smaller Fort had so many deaths they had no choice other than dig a pit to bury the dead. It was under discussion while we still lived in Iowa because no one knew anymore where the pit was. It was hard to believe that the information could have been so lost in what was about 70 or 80 years.

This seems to be the correct thread to remember and honor our fellow Americans, and foreign, service memebers who fought for and died for this country. Honor to their names and RIP. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. Regards Dave

Works for me Dave, location wise. I not only celebrate the memory of those who gave the whole measure, but those who served and survived. God bless them all.
Regards, Tom

May they rest in peace in the palm of Gods hands.

I am reminded of the next to last line of The Battle Hymn of the Republic, this day of remembrance
"He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free"
I hope you are well too Dan. Your absence these many weeks had me concerned, considering you live on the Last Stand Hill of the current crisis. If you know anything of Wagner's welfare, please pass it along.
