The United States Army was founded by the Second Continental Congress on June 14th, 1775 when it formed the Continental Army under the command of General George Washington. For 244 years the men and women who have served as well as those who are currently serving have protected the United States, her citizens and assets. Over 1,000,000 US soldiers have paid the ultimate sacrifice that we may rest comfortable in our safe and secure homes as present day soldiers stand guard for us. How incredibly inadequate for me to say thank you on behalf of myself and family but what else can I say or do?
I lost a high school classmate in Viet Nam, Darrell De Priest, who died on May 16,1968 of injuries from an explosive device. How ironic in a sense was the fact that he was in the 1st Cavalry Division. He lies in a small cemetery in Abbeville, MS nest to his mom and dad. It is a very peaceful place just minutes from his childhood home.
To all our US Army veterans, thank you and Happy Birthday! Regards Dave

Dave, Steve and I just walked the cemetery at the LBH and paid our respects yesterday. Quite a few 19 to 22 year old young men rest there, not all Army. I have done the same at R.E. Lee's old home place, in Arlington. Being USAF, I do remember our roots. I second the thank you.
Regards, Tom

Dave,
Fine post. I echo your sentiments. No need to add a thing to it.
Happy Birthday United States Army and all that served in it.
