Tom has started to share pictures from their trip but unfortunately I had to lend my cell phone to Kid 2 since hers died yesterday. She should be getting a replacement later today and then I will start posting pictures.

The battle that effectively broke the backs of the Cheyenne. January 1877, Wolf Mountain. There were other battles to be sure. Tom

As I watched that Tom, my mind's eye envisioned Cash and Stuart performing that for Mrs. Custer about 1930 or so.
It is illustrative in that until about 1960 or so, such would be considered heresy in the minds of the American public, who were still thinking Custer a hero, sacrificed on the altar of American progress and expansion. Today though Cash and Stuart's views as expressed in that little ditty are nearly universal except in Queens and LBHA conventions. Are we as a country finally grown up enough to admit our mistakes and transgressions. I hope so, because we must face our past, if we are ever to progress to the future.

The song is in the key of A, you can see that Cash is playing standard open chords, A D E, Marty however has a capo on the 8th fret which allows him to also play in the key of A but use the chords C F G. All in the key of A but makes both guitars sound in different octaves.

The LBHA sign ins start tomorrow, the conference is concluding Saturday with awards, dinner and such.
This has been a rewarding 10 days or so. The NA gentleman I photographed above is Patrick Hill(Pawnee/Crow) he did in fact walk the battlefield with JSIT, William Tall Bull, and Woodenleg's grandson, when he was a young teenager. Patrick attended Antioch in DC. Antioch School of Law was a law school in Washington, D.C. which specialized in public advocacy. It was established in 1972 by Edgar S. Cahn and Jean Camper Cahn, longtime champions of the legal rights of low-income and minority persons. The school now operates as the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law (UDC-DCSL).
We also spent an afternoon with Linwood Tall Bull, teacher at Dull Knife College. He teaches his peoples history and Medicinal herbs found on the reservation. My wife will be thrilled with the latter as she worked as a Master Herbalist at the National Arboretum, in DC. The sacred bundles were at the battlefield. Custer was first seen the night of the 22nd by Cheyenne scouts, he was lost during the night march but known to be in the area. Stories abound but the timing of the attack surprised the village as a whole. We were given a list of Cheyenne participants, can't wait to compare.
Met today with the great, great, great, granddaughter of Dull Knife, Steve has a wonderful picture to share. She runs a wonderful small museum at the college in Lame Deer.
I will try to give more details and thoughts as I am sure Steve will.
Regards, Tom

For you Ian, we need the music, you are just the man, country if you will. Start picking and share. Release as southwest country western.
Here are the words to work with.
In heaven there is no beer (No beer) That's why we drink it here And when we're all gone from here Our friends will be drinking all the beer
In heaven there is no wine (No wine) So we drink till we feel fine And when we leave this all behind Our friends will be drinking all the wine
In heaven there is no fear (No fear) So we worry too much here And we drink ourselves full of beer To help us when we deal with the fear
In heaven there are no drugs (No drugs) That's why we hang with thugs And when the Lord pulls the plug All the thugs will still be selling drugs, yeah
Thugs and drugs, beer Oh yeah
In heaven there is no sex (Oh no) So let's do that next (Do that) And when our muscles no longer flex Someone else will be having sex
In heaven there are no wars (No wars) Or cars, or movie stars And when we no longer are The world will probably still be having wars What the heck, yeah yeah
Sex and war, bars and cars Drugs, thugs and delicious food, hey
Regards, Tom
