As far as the road. The original road came in from Reno Creek and is still visible. We rode from the 7th Ranch to Highway 212 following it. As far as the current road first it was primarily on NPS property, I suspect ease of access to the Interstate and politics had something to do with its location. It was designed to drive through and to NPS held lands. When you have to cut through Weir it probably was not following a horse traveled corridor. I think you can see an old road just to the east of the new and it goes down Cedar Coulée.

Forget about the trail Mac, it is done and dusted, but here is a few pages from the RCOI and the testimony of Lt. Varnum;
Frustrating Ian...he says he "supposed" it was Custer's trail. What AZ may know is what is the high hill with the pile of rocks on it. High hill..could be SSR. Would he call Weir a hill? Cheers

I don't know Mac, but you are right he is confusing at times. It could have been worse though, he could have been Scottish and said things like Munros, Corbetts and Grahams, which are all types of hills and mountains in Scotland, depending on height.
