I think even in some bad books you can at least look at their sources. Its hard to have an informed opinion without looking at all available sources. To the extent someone uses only supporting sources it should be easy to discern their objective in writing the book. I really don't think you can avoid author with opinions. Why else would they write about the battle of the Little Bighorn. One thing we should do when putting forth a theory is to review those that disagree and have a different opinion. Look at tier sources to see if has anything that would change our opinion.

One that comes to mind in this category is my purchase of "Six Frigates" by Ian Toll. I knew next to nothing about the early U S Navy in the age of fighting sail. I purchased the book and was so impressed by the way Toll presented the subject matter, that I have bought all of the rest of his books as well. Girlfriend gave me 6 Frigates a few years back and I really liked it as well.

IF we had a half-price bookstore near me, I would gladly take most of my LBH books and many of my others (and some games) and sell them there. I am also divesting unbuilt models and models I don't wish to repair or refurbish. As it is, various books are making their way to Good Will (or other places) and I am trying to sell off games I am sure I will no longer play. It's too much trouble to go to a used book store because they only give you store credit and most of the books in them are not ones I want to read.
