We have learned that Heritage Auctions will sell Glenwood J. Swanson’s outstanding Custer and Indian Wars collection as a single owner sale next June. Included among the nearly 200 lots is a tacked musket that Sitting Bull possessed when he surrendered to the U.S. Army in 1881.
Past and present examples of Mr. Swanson’s well-documented collection are among the photographs and other items illustrated in his book G.A. Custer: His Life and Times (2004). Several of these historic artifacts were displayed at the Garryowen museum near Little Bighorn Battlefield, Montana in the 1990s, including Major Marcus A. Reno’s forage cap.
Heritage Auctions will issue a formal announcement with representative photographs early next year.
This message may be forwarded or otherwise distributed to all interested persons and parties.
