I wish my life wasn't in such free fall right now. I would actually love to go to that event if possible but I can't make plans for it right now.

I hope we could all meet up someday Beth, especially at the LBH, as that would be the icing on the cake. But never say never my dear, no matter how remote the chances are of it actually happening.

I have never been to Gettysburg which is why I would love to go to that meeting. Once daughter 2 commits to a college then we will have an idea where we have to travel this year and where we want to.

You would think that when we get past sixty we would cut back on our work load, but nooooooo! A sixteen hour is too long for even a youngster, so Steve I can see just what you have gone through, we are down on staff at the moment and I am the man who covers their shifts, not done sixteen yet but four or five times in the last two weeks I have touched double figures in hours per day. I have another week to go before I am the big 60.
Good job that this week is only a four day week, as we are leaving for Normandy at 6:30AM this coming Friday.

''LOL'' No Tom I have no interest with 'William the Bastard' linkBut I am paying homage to my dad and his brother and maybe my other uncle from my mothers side [that's if I can find out which beach he landed on in time], I have always wanted to visit the landing beaches, so it is a my birthday treat from Susan and the lads.

The operating under the influence checkpoints (OUI) take place all over the state. I started the Department's use of PWCs as contact vessels. I developed the lesson plan to instruct new officers regarding officer safety and the use of a PWC. That would be in the mid 1990s. I still teach the class. Coconino County Sheriffs Office puts their deputies through the course for all their Lake Powell officers. We have put through National Park Service Officers also. The most important rule is that the officer must come to dead stop before getting closer than 10 feet. That allows for maneuverability and safety factors. Before the school we had accidents caused by approaching to fast.
So on Saturday my day began with leaving Flagstaff at 7:00 AM and driving 210 miles to the check point location on the Colorado River where I-40 crosses into California. We set up the beach, place OUI checkpoint buoys in the river and start the intoxilyzer in the trailer . There is a debriefing of all officer participants. We then launch the PWCs and head up river to the location. The checkpoint is scheduled for 4.5 hours and ends at sunset. Take everything down and head home when done. Another 210 mile drive and get home a little after 11 PM. The hardest part is the drive home.
