Welcome to The Centennial Campaign
This board covers a period of US history also known as The Great Sioux War or the Black Hills War. Our main focus is the time between the Battle of Powder River, March 17,1876 to the Agreement of 1877. Our conversations tend to focus on the Battle of the Little Big Horn aka Custer's Last Stand. We also love to discuss other aspects of military and general history.

This short story from the November 29, 1952 issue of the Saturday Evening Post titled "The Case of the Blind Pilot" was incorporated into the movie " Men of the Fighting Lady" made in 1954. It is the remarkable story of two pilots, one blinded, returning from a mission over North Korea and the successful and safe landing of the impaired pilot. Quite a story of brave men doing their duty in war and assisting a squadron mate.
I found additional information about Howard Thayer listed below in the Flying Magazine article regarding his death and other feats of heroism. Regards Dave
