Norman B. Corporal US Marine Corp I am unsure of the exact years my dad served but it was the early 50's during the Korean War. I know that he often related the story of coming home for lunch and seeing his draft notice on the kitchen counter. He left the house immediately with the letter unopened to enlist in the Marine Corp so he would get his choice in which brand of the military he would be in. I found a bunch of Marine Muster Rolls and orders just today so I know that he was ordered to report of Food Service school at Camp LeJeune in the fall of 51. I have not had a chance to go through the rest of the documents. I know he that did boot camp and the rest of his enlistment at Camp Pendleton. I know in his obit, he was called a Korean War vet but I know that dad never once claimed that title for himself. My dad did very well in his Food Service training and was allowed his choice of assignments after he finished, one of which was in Washington DC. He elected to return to Camp Pendleton to make sure that anyone who passed through Pendleton were as well fed as the Corp resources would allow. He was proud of his service in the Marine Corp and often shared his memories with us. I know that the friendships he formed during his service, lasted his entire life.
