I donate to an organization called Civil War Trust. Their magazine is called "Hallowed Ground" They do fine work in preserving CW battlefields among them, 1288 acres at Chancellorsville, 314 at Antietam,983 at Gettysburg and a host more. If you are interested you can go to CIVILWAR.ORG.

They also saved a lot of ground at Brandy, and some at Second Manassas that is critical to understanding how Longstreet was able to launch his closing attack.

Yes, you are correct. 2089 at Brandy Station and 198 at Second Manassas. Glad you are aware of them. As I said they seem to do some good work. Be Well Dan

What I am not sure of is what they do with this land after it is preserved. Do they turn it over to the National Park Service, or just keep it from further development.
The last time I was at Brandy Station, I was sporting a girl who I was trying to impress with my knowledge of history. For my sake she went along with it, but she was probably bored out of her skull. At that time there was only a small monument on Fleetwood Heights (and I mean small, like a little bigger than a gravestone) and that was it. The rest were farmer's field and pasture land. That girl became the Godmother of my daughter at her Baptism (a little later of course) and my daughter turned 52 last month. As far as I know the Park Service does not hold that land, but there are a hell of a lot of things I don't know.
Maybe Tom has been there recently.
Speaking of Brandy. I am sure I will find an argument, but I feel that the battle at Brandy Station was the root cause of Lee's eventual defeat at Gettysburg. I'll let Dave read and digest that one, and then I will tell him why if he wishes me to.
