If in fact GAC had rolled up his jacket as some have said the bullet hole is bull. He had more than one buckskin jacket. One resides in the Smithsonian, or did.

One is in the battlefield museum collection. It looks long for riding a horse.
I agree that Custer was probably not wearing any buckskin according to accounts.

Sitting with his scouts and dogs he seems to be wearing similar buckskin.

Sitting with his scouts and dogs he seems to be wearing similar buckskin. But similar is not the same, and it doesn't mean it was wearing it at the battle. I can believe that he had at least one buckskin with him when he left FAL but I doubt he was wearing one that day. It was extremely hot that day remember?

For sure... I was just commenting. I don't think he was wearing a buckskin coat on July 25th either.

I remember Montroes telling me that on campaigns, the men would cover themselves in any coat they had, even though it was hot, because you pick up at lot of scratches and cuts on such treks especially on thorns and plants like that, and you don't want these getting infected, so wearing jackets would prevent a lot of these cuts from actually happening.
