Have there been any new discovers regarding the topic of the Deep Ravine? I agree with Beth that any bodies buried in a area where the run off water would course through undoubtedly was washed away not counting the wildlife that would dine on any human remains. Other than Michno's "The Mystery of E Troop" has there been any other publications supporting his theory?
I know there were previous digs in the Deep Ravine but they seem to have stopped. I wonder if they are waiting for improvements in archeology before digging again?
I still come back to Benteen who was a hardened combat vet who said he saw bodies in deep ditch and did not Kanipe also state that he saw 28 or so bodies in deep gully? Regards Dave

We all are guilty of going off thread and I have to admit I do it probably more than anyone. I just moved the Shiloh info to hopefully act as a seed to grow the conversation over there.

At the battlefield in 2015 I was told that there had been some ground penetrating radar done that suggested there were "objects" buried at depth. That is the best I have. Cheers

Dave: The problem with both Benteen and Kanipe saying what they did does not take into consideration the changes that have occurred in the 140 years since.
Mac was there most recently, and Tom and Steve more recently that Mac, so anyone can correct me that feels any great urge, but the bottom most portion of Cemetery Ravine seems almost filled in to my eye, and I made note of it when I was there many moons ago.
To some extent it seems that we may be having the same problems that we have with mentions in Indian testimony of hill or ridge. Taking an account and attributing it to a specific spot on the ground is very hard work.

I just posted under the archaeology area about the LIDAR studies that were done at LBH. I wonder how they would tell the difference between things that have washed down at time and things buried? The number and location of the objects?

Chuck I have never walked down into the Deep Ravine or anywhere near by and would defer to Mac and Steve who have far better knowledge of the terrain than I do. I would be interested in what they find with ground penetrating radar. Regards Dave

So would I, but I highly doubt there are any bodies there. Probably plenty of debris, and as Beth says it could have easily been washed down they from the high ground.
Artifact finds are probably meaningless. Bodies something quite different with regards to telling a story

Chuck I agree and you make a very good point as in regards to the bodies telling the stories as exampled by the recent discovery of King Richard. Yet I would like to see if they could inspect the upper part of Deep Ravine with radar and the LIDAR Beth mentioned. A satellite imagery project would be extremely interesting to see what could be discerned. Regards Dave

Not sure that I would trust Custer Overblog as that is the old Custerwest.org site. The owner of that site is a rampant Custerphile who evidently threatened people who disagreed with him. The moniker Benteeneast was a contrary response to Custerwest. Best, David

I believe when I was talking with Douglas Scott he stated that he believed something was there but it would cost around $100,000 to dig it.

The Ten Myths I have seen before and it is interesting. This quote In a letter to Walter Camp in 1911, responding to Camp’s persistent, incorrect questions about bodies in the ravine, Roe finally said: “I put up the markers near the deep ravine you speak of. There never was twenty-eight dead men in the ravine, but near the head of said ravine, and only two or three in it.” I am happy to go along with this as the likely disposition of bodies. In the understanding of the movements of troops, in the ravine, next to the ravines, at the head of the ravine are too small scale for me to get too excited about. Benteen's map now becomes interesting again I think. AZ might agree . Cheers

Brother David I have read and looked over the web site and it is very eerie looking at the hokum he posts. Not being attached to reality has enabled him to drift in and out of orbit around Pluto. Perhaps he has connections with the great sage of Nevada who has the Custer Shrine. Birds of a feather Regards Dave
