Many are not aware that Miles and Sitting Bull met/parleyed prior to this battle. The first meeting ended with the understanding to meet again. The second ended with a bit more rancor(understatement) and was the run up to the Battle. Results USA win. Losses USA 2 dead 2 wounded. NA losses 6 dead for sure, as they were recovered and unknown wounded. After the battle approximately 2000 men, women, and children surrendered and returned to reservations. The remainder of SB's group continued on toward Canada, followed by Miles.
Covering the subject: Jerome Greene's "Yellowstone Command: Col. Nelson A Miles and the Great Sioux War of 1876-1877. Also in Miles Personal Recollections.
