I think you mean Dusty Dornin Dave.
1st Question:
The President is John Kennedy. President Kennedy was killed in Dealey Plaza, Dallas, Texas. The plaza is named for George Bannerman Dealey, publisher of the Dallas Morning News, and Samuel David Dealey, MOH, was his nephew. Just figured when I asked the question and mentioned president and Dealey in the same post it would be easy. Guess not
2nd Question:
Roy Benson was the commander of Trigger before David Connole. Connole commanded Trigger when Trigger was lost. In 1947 Roy Benson and Ned Beach commissioned the manufacture of a replica Trigger Battle Flag to be presented to the USNA Museum in Connole's honor. During that ceremony Benson met Vida Connole for the first time. They were married shortly thereafter Benson raising Connole's son Rick, and evidently lived happily ever after.

This chap was a local lad who was born in west bank Widnes, apparently in 1942 he saw a Japanese convoy and decided to take it on, here is some data on this brave man and his crew plus his ship, which looks more like a pleasure cruiser steaming up the Mississippi. linkThe Japanese didn’t take too kindly to this little ship and its brave attack, they machine gunned any survivors who were clinging to life boats and rafts, they even threw grenades and even lumps of coal at them, then to make sure they got as many as they could one of the destroyers drove right through them as they struggled to stay afloat. No wonder only six survived alive only to make dry land only to be taken prisoner by the Japanese. Its ok I won't bore you all with the exploits of HMS Widnes, I have already done that, oh did I ever tell you the story of our other VC winner "Thomas Mottershead"?
