This info was posted today on Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument's Facebook page The Battle of Powder River took place shortly before the Battle of the Little Bighorn just miles east. The American Battlefield Protection Program (ABPP) has awarded $44,000 to assist Our Montana in creating "a historical report to better document the Battle of Powder River, fought in Montana in 1876. The combined Northern Cheyenne and Lakota Sioux defeated the American forces, triggering the Great Sioux War. The report will combine archival research, oral interviews, artifact location, magnetometer testing, and a recommendation to obtain the site’s registry on the National Register of Historic Places."
