Walt Garrison, running back for Dallas 66-74. Probably gave QC fits a few times. I do remember George Allen himself complimenting him. “That Garrison. I’d like to have him.” I believe that was the quote. RIP Walt. Real cowboy too. Got a new horse trailer as a signing bonus instead of $’s.

A real cowboy as I recall, not just a football cowboy. Tremendous athlete, and a formidable and honorable opponent.

Media asked him once if he’d ever seen Tom Landry smile. “No, but I’ve only been here 6 years.”

My first father in law had three ships sunk out from under him in World War II. He was part of a naval gun crew on Liberty Ships in the Atlantic. He passed away very young at age 42 of a massive heart attack. On the day he was buried, a Monday, the Redskins were playing the Cowboys at RFK. We came home from that funeral feeling mighty low as you might imagine. We all sat around my mother in laws house, ate, reminisced, some cried a little, and before long it was time for Monday Night football. The Cowboys as I recall took a 21-0 lead in the first half, but the Redskins came back scoring 28 points in the second half and the Cowboys zip. Seconds to go, Cowboys driving and the ball goes to Garrison who gets to the half yard line, when Kenny Houston about half Garrison's size picks him up off the ground and holds him there as the gun goes off ending the game. Post game both shook hands had while you could not hear what they were saying to each other, your imagination has Garrison saying to Houston well done Kenny

I remember that game! 72 or 73 season I think. Yes, outstanding tackle! But I may disagree with you a bit. Houston wasn’t a little guy. He went around 200 lbs., good size for a safety. And he hit as hard as anyone in the league. Hall of famer, right?

Well, I'll take your word for Houston's size, but next to Garrison he looked like a skinny little runt, who had been on a diet for twenty years.
Only one I remember who could hit harder was Pat Fisher.
Hall of Fame - Yes
