Jimmy Buffett passed away. Tragic loss for beach bums and wantabe beach bums like myself. Whenever I needed a little perking up, I threw one of Jimmy's CD is the player, and had a renewed hunger for a Cheeseburger in Paradise. He will be missed.

Bet you didn't know I taught Baron von Steuben everything he knew either did you? I just wanted to keep my name out of the press after that Valley Forge thing.
I like most kinds of music. Whenever I'm down there is nothing like Bob Wills and the Playboys to perk me up. In my more serious moments it opera. When I am in a particularly romantic moment, which are few and far between these days, it is a Bolero, or something South of the Borderish. But when I just want to kick back and remember those halcyon days with my high school sweetheart walking on the beach at Ocean City, I turn to Jimmy, and think of Thrasher's French Fries. Just had an e-mail exchange with her a few days ago. She is either still crazy about me or just crazy and I have not figured out which yet.
You will have to forgive me now I must retrieve my Hawaiian shirt and cut offs from the dryer, and find where I put my flip flops or I won't have anything to wear to church tomorrow

Into classic rock myself, 50's, 60's, 70's. Also classic country, My Dad had 8-tracks of Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride, Marty Robbins, Bill Anderson, etc. Marty's El Paso and it's sequel, El Paso City, are some of my favorites. I am familiar with that city also as I have relatives there. My uncle who has since passed used to speak of the inspiration for the El Paso song, a place called Rose's Cantina. Still there I believe. As a young kid, I remember asking my Dad what a "Big Iron" was. Had no clue at the time. (nothing to do with golf) Hope your Hawaiian shirt came out of the dryer clean and crisp.

I have a fairly large collection of 1950's Rock and Roll starting with Billy Ward and the Dominoes "Sixty Minute Man" which was banned on Boston radio for whatever. Also a slightly smaller collection of 50's country music. Lots of Hank Thompson, Carl Smith, Billy Walker, Ernest Tubb, Patsy Cline, Ray Price, Sons of the Pioneers. My favorite of that genre though is Bob Wills. My favorite song writer though is not Willie, it's Cindy Walker. Look her up some time and see all the stuff she has written. An absolute C&W Legend.

"Ride hard and I'll make it by dawn" I actually like it better than Robbin's El Paso

. . . She’d been seen in old San Antone . . .
El Paso’s so interesting since there’s no chorus. It’s one simple story. Both classics.

Agreed.
I do feel a bit sorry for anyone who has not had a large taste of Tejas culture though. It's like no other place on this earth.
