Knowing you are an aviation sort of guy, despite the fact you are also a tread head and the reincarnation of Wyatt Earp, I thought you may be interested in the Pikes Peak Regional Air Show scheduled for the Colorado Springs Airport on the weekend of 24-25 September.
Among the aircraft on display will be a P51, two P47's, a P38, SBD Dauntless, F4U Corsair, a B17, and an FM2 Wildcat, plus a lot of vintage WWII period aircraft that are nothing special to those who attend these things regularly, T-6 Texans and alike. Two I am particularly intersted in seeing are the NA50, a North American product that I had never heard of, and an F3F, the biplane predecessor of the Wildcat, Hellcat, and Bearcat. I have never seen one except in pictures, and frankly did not know one still existed. You can certainly see the familiy resemblance though to the "Cats".
More modern aircraft will also be on display on the ground and in flight including the F35.
Let me know if you are interested in attending. Perhaps we could get together.
Unfortunately no P39, or P40, my personal favorite of the WWII era.

Thanks, QC. I'll speak to she who rules the planet and see if we can make that trip. I've been having a bout of back problems recently that have limited my mobility somewhat (slipped disks and spinal stenosis). If we decide to make it up there, I will let you know so we can meet up there or somewhere else. I would really like to see that airshow since it is going to be WW2-centric. Stay tuned.

Standing by, and having back problems myself, I feel your pain, and hope you recover promptly.
I thought I was married to she who rules the planet? Well, she rules my part anyway.
Google Pikes Peak Reginal Air Show for more information.

QC, As fate would have it, I finally got an appt to get my back worked on, and it is on the 21st. That figures. It rules out my being able to go to Colorado for the air show (damn it). Thanks for letting me know about it though.

Your back is more important than any air show Colt. Wish you could come, but I'd rather you be healthy. Maybe next year.

Well Colt, you would have been in hog heaven. It was a terrific show.
First time I had seen a Corsair in flight since I was a kid. The Navy and Marine Reserves had them at NAS Annacostia, and would see them fly nearly every weekend. The Corsair on display though was not an F4U, but rather an identical FG1 made by Goodyear, not Vought, so that production could be increased. It was no wonder to me why the NK's and Chicoms were so scared of the Corsair. No better close support aircraft has ever been designed for my money. The Skyraider by Douglas was very good, but I do not think it was as flexible as the Corsair. The Corsair could hold its own with the Mig 15.
I had never seen a Wildcat in flight, until yesterday. This was not an F4F, but rather a FM2 made by General Motors, so that Wildcat production could be maintained, while the production line for the F6F could be established.
Anyway lots of good stuff. Today I am watching them fly over my back yard, as I live very near the air port, and Petersen SFB
Hope your back is well on the mend.
PS: A B17 in flight is very impressive too.

Well, I am jealous. You obviously had a good time and I wish I had been there. But, this weekend I spent on my back because of my back. Looks like surgery is inevitable. The shot helped but hasn't had the desired impact.
I have seen the corsair fly and been in the cockpit of one. I would have loved to fly it. Same with the B17. I haven't flown in one but got to move through the interior. Thrilling. When I was on the PD in Amarillo in the 80's, one of my buddies had a brother who was in the air force, assigned to a C5A. His plane landed in Amarillo for an airshow and I was able to get a private tour through the C5 before the airshow started. Now that was cool.
When I turned 14, my birthday present was my first flying lesson in a Cessna. At the airport in the hangar where the Cessna was, was a Bearcat, owned by the airport owner. Big beautiful aircraft. Sadly, one week later at the airshow at the main airport, he was doing stunts in the bearcat when he lost it and went straight in. Worst thing I ever saw.

I sure did.
The madam went through that shot routine with about the same results you are having. Ultimately surgery was the remedy. In her case there were two, one up in the neck region, and one on the lower back spaced about a year apart.
I don't think the U S Navy has any fond memories of the Bearcat, although the French in Indochina seemed to like it. Problem with it for a combat aircraft it was short ranged, intended as a fleet defense fighter.
