Yes, I knew what you meant. Starship Troopers do not have to worry about chiggers.
Ian: So true. Can't say I will have any use ever for any of those idiots, not after my mother's funeral anyway. My mother, a life long dues paying Catholic, who could not attend services for the last fifteen years of her life, because of her health, but sent a check into her parish church every week like clockwork, and her parish could not even find a way to send a priest to conduct a graveside service. So Joan, I, and our kids and grandkids did it ourselves, right out of the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer. I don't think my mother would mind at all, but those goddamned mealy mouth shit for brains relatives of mine sure did. You would have though we branded the Virgin Mary with a scarlet letter to hear them tell it. From that time on, a pox on all of them, and I hope the Good Lord finds a way of crapping on Saint Leo's in Fairfax as well. That and the attempt to do a family history was the last straw for me. You find out a lot about people if you hang around this earth as long as I have.

They couldn't see past the pay check, I don't really remember this but back in the day, the parish priest would go around the houses of his flock, knocking on each and every front door, asking for money, he always did it on a Thursday evening just as the husband got paid (Thursday was always pay day back then). It didn't matter to the priest how much money the wife got given or how much her husband got paid or how many kids they had and if they had enough to feed them. He always wanted his cut.
So bottom line is that they really don't care about your circumstances, just your money.

Ian, chiggers are tiny, but their bites itch like crazy. They also have a tendency to bite where your clothes are the tightest like waistbands, shoes laces, and socks. They are a mite and don't carry things like lyme disease. People used/still do cover bites with clear nail polish. I am afraid that I seem to be a bit hypersensitive to them I get huge blotches from a bite, not little red spots. Seriously, I would rather deal with fire ants than chiggers, at least you can see fire ants and deal with a fire ant mound. Luckily they have a limited range over the US but one of the areas is Southern Iowa. We were out at the farm which, other than my father-in-law visiting once a month, hasn't been lived in full time for about 20 years. The yard is a bit overgrown and full of chiggers and ticks. I only was out there one day but came back to the hotel with a couple of ticks in my hair. Steve had to be tick checked every night. We were smart enough to use a tick repellent on the dog and sort of forgot ourselves.

Well I certainly hope that's not the case, but it sure seems that many of those collared bastards have forgotten what they are supposed to be doing.
I think when you are a member of a church you have the obligation to give what you can afford to give, but always consistent with your means. There are those who can't afford a penny though, and they should be still considered just as important members of the Body of Christ, as much as those who could support the entire church out of their petty cash drawer. I forgot to mention that my mom also sent a check every week into my father's church every week, after he passed away. His pastor was at her funeral, but not her priest.
If I was not brought up in the Christian Faith, I highly doubt if I would have joined later in life based on all the abuse I have witnessed on the part of people whose only job is to be a servant, not a tax collector.

They are very small. The ones I have seen are red and no bigger than a pinhead. In Florida we also have tiny biting flies we call 'Noseeums'. The fly right through screens and drive you away.

Yes, that will do nicely. Nothing like Spike to add culture to any discussion of ticks, chiggers, mosquitoes, idiots in your family, blood sucking clergy who forgot their calling, and the assorted nuts and bolts of choosing the site of the Capital of the United States.
Poor Rolling Thunder, I told the poor fellow that June always gets quiet around here waiting for the reports from the "front", but I think this year we have hit either a new high or new low, and I am not sure which. Spike will sort it out. Pass the biscuits Marandy.

Good god Chuck, that clip is so old it had Whisker's on a it!
Beth, you must be allergic to those chiggery Beastie's, I know some who are allergic to mozzie bites. It is a fact that some people get bit more than others, and that mozzies seem to single people out to bite.
Mike, fly through screens? What are these things, mighty mites.

They are just smaller than the screen's grid/openings and fly right through.

Oh it was funny as hell Ian. I just needed some of Spike's Cocktails for Two to cheer me up on a dreary rainy afternoon.
The clip reminded me of trying to communicate with the Madam, when she leaves her hearing aids on the night stand.

I tried to find Beetlebaum but couldn't. I grew up on Spike Jones because my dad was a huge fan. We did our best to pass our love for Spike Jones to the next generation but I suspect they will have to age more before they appreciate our introduction to high culture. Here is their first TV show ('51) for you. link Warning it is about an hour long and has vintage commercials. Thank goodness someone thought to archive these early shows. i have listened to Spike Jones all my life but thanks to Youtube I can now see them perform.

It's raining on my window Beth, but the sun is shinning in my heart.
Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Jones. Four Aces. Culture is where you find it
