Mike Robel here and just joined the board.
I am a retired Army LTC, branched Armor/Cavalry serving in the 1/11 ACR as a tank and cavalry platoon leader and Troop XO. More service in all three brigades of the 1st Infantry Division (Mech) . In the 1st Brigade I was a BN Maintenance Officer, BN S-4 (Supply), Company commander, 2nd Brigade: S-3AIR and Company Commander, and 3rd Brigade Company Commander and S-3Air. I also served in the Division Headquarters twice, 1st in between the 1st and 2nd Brigades as the G-3 Division Armor Training Officer, Nighttime TAC CP OIC, and then again in Desert Storm as a daytime watch officer in the Main CP. Then it was back to 2nd Brigade as the S-4. Also taught ROTC at Cal State San Bernardino.
After Desert Storm went into the Reserves and was also a Defense Contractor working with simulations. I was the database manager for the 1/87 Exercise Division, then the simulation manager for the 2nd ACR, then went into making tools rather than using them and worked on WARSIM (Brigade to Corps battle simulation), OneSAF (Brigade and Below), Joint Logistics Demployment Manager (JDLM), and other aspects of the Army simulation program, then worked for the Exercise Division of the Joint Staff.
I am a rabid wargamer, run my little tiny wargame company (StrongPoint Modeling and Simulations - no web site but you can find it on Boardgamegeek.com - Note: The best way to make a small fortune in the game industry is to start with a large fortune), model builder (mostly real space subjects, but also armor, naval, cars, and sci-fi), and voracious reader. I live in sight of the Kennedy Space Center as a kid during Apollo and returned after I got out of the Army and working in simulation.
Planning a trip (cancelled in 2020 and likely this year too) to the LBH, have acquired about 1 meter worth of books and a dozen or so electronic ones. Have Physical maps of the battle area ranging from 1:12500, 1:24000. 1:100000, 1:250000 and 1:50000. My plan is to know exactly what I want to see via intensive map reconnaissance and tie my photos to my maps with GPS observations (camera embeds the coordinates in the image.)
