Hence the old adage don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. I'll explain quickly--Iowa's roads look like someone laid them out with graph paper-there is a gravel road every mile to allow farmers to easily move to and from market towns. They continue to exist because they are so handy when moving huge farm equipment from field to field. There are paved roads that connect towns but there are times it's just easier to use the gravel roads to get around. You tealize the whole throwing babies out with bathwater was a favorite Count von B term. Usually used with a quote of dubious veracity but denigrated Reno or Benteen , or exonerated GAC. Basically meant toss out the real junk except the parts that achieved one or all aspects of the sentence above.
