Tom, I am big star trek fan, but that boat is no enterprise, in fact it is the most ugliest ship I have ever seen, I take nothing away from its fighting capabilities as it is probably a dangerous vessel, but aesthetically "yuck"

It looks much better in the case above my desk. Zumwalt is the new face of marine technology. I just completed my model of her this past week. I have the Lyndon B. Johnson on order. Johnson is a near sister due to be laid down at Bath Iron Works in Maine this year. The near in "near sister" is that Johnson will have an electro magnetic rail gun in place of the number two mount you see in Tom's link.
If you still think its ugly it will grow on you, and part of the growing is the realization that this one platform exceeds the total firepower equivalent of Task Force 38/58 in WWII. All this proving one again something I often say here - More is not better - only better is better.

It looks like a submarine gone wrong.

Don't know if you all realize it, but Zumwalt is as big as a Cleveland Class light cruiser of WWII vintage, a shade over 600 feet.
Could not be a submarine David. You did not see a screen door did you?

I am sure she will be a great addition to the navy but she does not have the beautiful lines of the USS North Carolina. Regards Dave

Dave, You are so correct, but think of the less wind drag(higher efficiency)and stealth lines(lower radar signature). I know it does not equate to James Dean's "live fast, die young, and leave a good looking corpse," but that did not workout so well for him.
Regards, Tom

I still say it looks like a prototype Russian sub from 1963 or so. Mimics the big american car with fins.

The irony is that future generations may wax nostalacally about the beauty of the Zumwalt

The Zumwalt is an ugly girl, period. All the other girls may like her and she may be a great cook but she is as homely as an armadillio's butt!
She may have a great stealth signature but Brother Dave is right she makes a Soviet sub look like a high class hooker. Regards Dave

Man, that is an ugly boat. Stealth technology works, but it sure makes for ugly vehicles. The F117, stealth fighter, is also as ugly as a donkey's butt. However, who cares what it looks like if it can kick ass and not be seen easily.

Call me an "old fashioned git" but I still like the auld ships, the Nelson Class comes to mind and there was none better then the indomitable "HMS Rodney" I am sure she had a sister ship named HMS Nelson and this had three turrets situated on the bow.
