Man, look at that paint job. Just primer but looks great. Work going on on the super structure and interior. They are hoping to refloat the ship late February. They are trying to return ship to what she looked like in ‘45. battleshiptexas.org/12-17-23-battleship-texas-update/

youtu.be/T1v56q7qq0w?si=SGmefCzC0LEJfqjoRecent drone footage. The refloat scheduled in about 2 weeks I believe. I think the final docking spot is just across from the dry dock there in Galveston. Ship looking good.

Looking pretty good Mister E. Looks like the only thing left doing is to stain the deck, Deck Blue. Really like the way the Navy Blue looks on the hull and superstructure. All too often it appears really dark in the World War II vintage color photos and films.

Yes, as I understand, the goal is to get her to look like she did in 1945. Work ongoing in her innards as well and will continue after she’s refloated. 1945 topside AA guns restored plus further work on the superstructure.

That is the normal process in a major overhaul/refit Mister E. Most of the major work is done while in dry dock, with internal and exterior refit work done while alongside. Dry dock time is precious. There are only so many dry docks, and what can be done pier side is more efficient to do there.

The USS Torsk (SS 423) was my father's first submarine and stationed on her from 1948 - 1950. I had the opportunity to tour her one time with him and it was a real thrill. Regards David

No reason you cannot do it again. She has been berthed at Pier 3 in Baltimore's Inner Harbor for more than fifty years. Go in the summer time, walk down the street a block or so and get some crabs at Phillips.

Still another 8-9 months of work to go on her innards and topside superstructure.
A previous post of mine was in error. She will not be permanently docked there at that spot in Galveston. Work will go on there but final berthing locale is yet to be determined. She’ll be in such good shape I’m sure she’ll be a premier attraction wherever she’s at in the Houston/Galveston area.

I wish someone with deep pockets would give the same treatment to USS Olympia. She will soon be on the bottom of the Delaware River in the condition she is in. Where she should be is the Washington Navy Yard, but they have torn down the previous (draw) South Capitol Street Bridge and are replacing it with one that will not permit much more than a row boat top pass under.

She is going into Number 3 at the old Philly Navy yard. Four and Five are larger, but they are in private hands now. Dry Dock 3 is sufficient. Back in the day I saw Guadalcanal being built there, and she was over 600 feet long. There was still plenty of room. Back in the same day I saw Iowa in DD#4 and you could have fit something else in there too.
I cannot recall if New Jersey was built on the ways, which are now gone and have not been used since WWII. They were still there in 1960 though. If memory serves though New Jersy may vet well have been built in Number 3.
