Au contrair. Politics are actually getting back to the point where we discuss, and disagree on, policy. It's going to be a long slog but we will get there.
As far as "those people" loving it, I am quite sure they do not. I think they know that if we can settle and triumph over what is on our present plate, by the application of the rule of law, as slow a process as that is, then their days are numbered too. One thing that the world must learn over and over again it seems, is that there is no such thing as a benevolent autocracy.
It does not matter if you like or agree with Joe Biden, any non-moron can understand his often made remark "It is a grave mistake to place your bet against the United States of America" Those that do so ignore those words at their peril.

I look forward to a return where the dems and repubs argue on taxes, how large a miltary budget we need, the environment, etc. etc. I too think we'll get there but it will take years. Not decades, but years at least. I remember in the 80's there were fiery arguments on capitol hill by day and by evening both sides would meet at DC bars and restaurants, fraternizing.
I agree with Biden.

Democracy is like the plant life in your back yard/garden. If you tend to it every day it thrives. If you do not weeds come up and choke all of the plants you previously tended so zealously. Once that happens, and it does happen in the best of gardens, because we stupid humans become complacent, it is two, three, or four times as much hard work to set everything straight again. That is of course if you want a garden. If you don't, and just don't give a shit what the place where you live looks like you say f**k it, it is too much trouble, and you end up living in Mississippi or Alabama. You get a serious lesson in gardening and your attentiveness to gardening if you live in those citadels of ignorance and garden depravity.
I hope the next thing they ban in Florida is Mike, so he can move here and we can make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, so I can give him at least a tentative answer to the question he e-mailed me an hour or so ago. Mike, to be honest I need to see the ground again, before I can give you an answer. I have grown stale.

Well the Army has today joined the Marine Corps in that the Army does not have a Chief of Staff, thanks to that no good son of a bitch Turberville.
Kathrine Lee Bates said it best, defining patriot as " More than self their country loved". A patriot looks out for what is best for his country, and takes petty bull shit off the table for that purpose. I do not care what Turberville believes. He is entitled to believe anything he wishes. What he is not entitled to do is degrade the readiness of the Armed Forces of the United States because of those beliefs.

I'm thinking of banning myself in the next two years, but the logistics and other issues are nearly overwheming. KS is more likely than CO, but Wichita is much closer than Merritt Island, FL and a detailed recon of the LBH would be possible.

Well Mister E I was not talking about Jerusalem. There are only two Holy Lands in my lexicon The first is San Antonio, and the second reluctantly is that God forsaken piece of prairie up north.

Well Mister E I was not talking about Jerusalem. There are only two Holy Lands in my lexicon The first is San Antonio, and the second reluctantly is that God forsaken piece of prairie up north. San Antonio does not particularly interest me, but high on the list is another visit to Cowpens and Gettysburg (Buford's battle), Yorktown, and maybe Saratoga (which requires me to go to NY at which I shudder). LBH is still on the list, but is a long way away...

Would like to return to LBH myself. Probably a year or better away. Need to take side trip to the Tetons also with the girlfriend.
We are planning a trip to San Antone next March or April most likely.

If you are going to SA in March or April make your hotel reservations now, and it might still be too late. The High Holy Days are the first week of March and you will be fortunate to get a lean to in town. Fiesta San Jacinto is in April and you would have better luck getting a hotel room in NO at Marti Gras than in SA during the fiesta.

Crockett Hotel. Looks good. Your thoughts?
Reasonable rates. Much within Walking distance.

Yes, across the street is certainly within walking distance. Plan on Sunday Brunch at the Menger, again make your reservations quite early like a couple of months ahead of time if you go in March or April
Side note: Watched "San Antonio" an old (1945) Errol Flynn movie today. The recreation of Alamo Plaza circa mid 1870's was remarkably accurate. The only thing they really got wrong was they had the Alamo with the correct for period hump, but no roof. Of course the hump and the roof were put on at the same time when the Alamo became a U S Army Quartermaster Depot.
Another side note: It is well known here what I think of Linda Darnell. Seeing Alexis Smith in San Antonio may cause me to reconsider who my dream date of 1940's movie stars is though.

We are booked. Middle of April. Crockett is within crawling distance of the Alamo, walking distance of riverwalk area, restaurants, bars. Looking forward to it. Haven't been to SA since mid 80's.
Will keep an eye out for San Antonio, the movie.
