I reckon those people who stormed the white house, will soon see what a big mistake that was. Trump too will soon see all his friends virtually distancing themselves from him. The shame that event has done to the USA will be a lasting memory for Trump and those who took the bait and followed his indirect orders to bring down all that is right about Democracy. I hope they have all suddenly realised what fools they have made out of themselves and the damage caused to the good name of the USA. Trump should be sent Coventry by all of his high flying friends as being seen too close to Donald will be bad for their buisness.
One final point, little rocket man has started to produce atomic weapons again, I wonder if he has grasped his moment and taken advantage of the upheavel in the white house.
Now back to the thread topic.

Is Coventry anywhere near Leavenworth, Kansas Ian. There is a very nice big house waiting for him to while away his retirement years. Unfortunately there is no golf course on the grounds themselves, and the food is far from the quality he is used to, but the rent is cheap.
My daughter just told me that her hairdresser, who was a big fan of the Donald two weeks ago, told her an hour ago she wanted to hang the bastard for treason.
The real story of Wednesday was told early Thursday morning when the joint session of Congress returned to work, in spite of what transpired earlier, and did their duty as specified by the Constitution. If you are forced to make a choice between Trump and the Constitution, always put your money on the Constitution. We are still the only Nation on Earth that is based on an idea alone.

Actually Chuck it is a paltry 4,652 miles between Coventry and Lenvenworth, but I get your drift.
One thing about this is that he certaily won't be able to run again in four years, even Scotland wouldn't have him.

I have to make one point, I have changed BECAUSE of my daughters. We have educated each other over the years, I educated them in their earliest years but then once they started school, they were also educated by others. I have been lucky that they always seemed to surround themselves with good people (Except for friend Sam had in Idaho but every kid makes mistakes and she learned much from the experience.
The move to Texas put them in a school (intentionally on our part) that had a broader population that they were experienced in Idaho and that I experienced growing up in Iowa. In Idaho they were considered outsiders especially being atheist in an area that you were either conservative Christian or LDS. In their school in Texas they found acceptance and were exposed to so many different beliefs and lifestyles. (Remember I am living in the blueberry in Abbot's tomato soup.)
It is one thing to see things on TV or the Internet but to meet people first hand and know their stories expand your views and understandings of others.

What will really be interesting is when the tax man in Scotland comes around to collect the taxes. His golf club in Scotland is in the hole for 75 million dollars US for 2020, and I expect the Scots don't want to hear about how golf has been a little off last year.
A mere 4652 miles, hell that's just around the corner. You might want to explain once again for our readers what being sent to Coventry means. You might want to tell them what kind of treatment Guy Fawkes received for trying to blow up Parliament too.

Why do you think that bevy of swine attacked the Capitol Building Beth? Thanks to the things you point to, namely TV and the Internet, but more broadly the rapid advance of communications in general the speed of transition from what we were to what we can be has been become exponentially faster. Those people are not prepared for that, and it scares the hell out of them, so they cling to someone who tells them that we must go back to what was. The thing about history, is that it never moves backward. It moves in only one direction, and that direction is forward. Far from dragging this thread off topic, the Medal of Honor subject matter is just one illustration of the point I am trying to make here. Today the standard is much more stringent. That has happened over time, because our standards of excellence have become more stringent. If you have not changed more rapidly in the last ten years then you have been asleep. Look at you daughters. Do you think they hold the views they do by accident? No, they hold those views they do, because you have changed, and passed that change along like a parent does. I was just told a few moments ago, by my daughter, that I have mellowed. Maybe I have, but I don't really think so. I am still a right of center conservative, but the thread that runs through my life, I believe, is that to me being a conservative means conserving the most liberal undertaking known to mankind, government by the consent of the governed. If that ain't liberal, I don't know what is. Generations to come will over time correct those things that plague us today. It will take time, but it will happen. I do want to remind you though that bigotry is the natural state of human affairs. It is the acting upon bigotry for its own sake that is the evil. I am still bigoted about the Barber of Seville, I don't like it, when compared to say Carmen (my favorite), but I am listening to it this afternoon anyway, as a penance for my many sins. I would like to move discussion of those events to a different thread. An insurrection against our country does NOT belong in the same thread were we discuss one of the highest honors we can give men and women who are willing to lay down their lives for that country.

Agreed. The discussion of current events though is in my view as disgusting as the disgusting events themselves. Probably best if it is not mentioned on these pages again.
That's what you get for not buying Campbell's Tomato Soup Beth. Campbell was a Scot Ian, so you can limit yourself to Progresso.
Thank God the Barber of Seville is over. I really don't like the music, and as hope springs eternal, I hope it will get better every time I listen to it. It doesn't. The son of a bitch couldn't cut hair worth a damn either.

It is history and history should be discussed. I have made an acception to the no discussion of battle after the end of the Vietnam era. There is an area for it now in other conflicts. It will be monitored to make sure it remains a discussion and not a grudge match.

Returning the discussion to Medal of Honor. Where did you get the information about why the Medals were awarded? When I was putting up the information about individual soldiers of the 7th Cav. (A project I want to get back to soon) I had great difficulty tracing down the information.

Mr. Quincannon- WHEN did I EVER infer, state or say in ANY of my posts that I thought "Life was fair"? SHOW ME WHERE in ANY POST I said that. I don't know what your thing is with you liking to put words in my mouth or misquote me, but it's a load of crap and you are out of freaking line.
Cut the B.S. Sincerely, Duane.

Beth: "Deeds of Valor" is the best source for the citations, and some background material on the incidents themselves. It might be hard to find as it was published about 1900 or so, but your local library should be able to get a copy for you. It has been reprinted several times as well, but I think the reprints are abridgments.
Duane; What in the hell is wrong with you? I did not say you said or wrote, or scribbled on the surface of the moon that life was fair. You implied it with your own words though. I just reminded all concerned including God Himself that life is not fair. When I call you a no good mother f**ker then you can take me to task. That is of course if you are not, and I have no reason to believe you are.
My exact quote was - " If any of you, including the Indians, Elizabeth Warren, Tom, or Duane, expect life to fair, I've got news for you IT AIN'T and NEVER WAS"
As a point of fact you did question the fairness, by extension of this matter. Your exact quote was
"Anyone who was not personally involved in the action where a (Congressional) Medal of Honor is earned should keep their mouth shut about who should be decorated.
I would never second guess the action of someone who was in combat ESPECIALLY IF I WASN'T THERE.
The ARROGANCE of some people is DISGUSTING"
So what you said is some people should keep their mouths shut. Presumably you meant that they should keep their mouths shut because they were not being FAIR to the person involved. Those were your words, and those words indicate that you believed there was a lack of fairness. That is a sentiment I happen to agree with. It is not fair because those not being fair do not know all of the circumstances surrounding the event.
You go on to say that you would never second guess. Well there are those that do second guess and you went on to say that "The arrogance of some people is disgusting - which any reasonable person would take together to mean that you do not think it is fair to do so.
There is no such thing as a Congressional Medal of Honor. There is a Medal of Honor - awarded in the name of Congress. For Christ sake at least get the name right.
Had enough yet? As I have said many times on this forum WORDS HAVE MEANING. If you don't know the meaning of your own words and their implication, how in the hell do you manage to communicate with anyone?
Where in my quote did I put words in your mouth or misquote you? WHERE? This is the second time this week you have accused me of something I did not and would not knowingly do, now get off my back you thin skinned son of a bitch, or I WILL piss in your corn flakes.
I don't want any trouble between us, but if you insist on this conduct, then you give me no choice. Now sit back and think about what has transpired. Reflect upon the fact that you hastily jumped to conclusions in both instances. Ask yourself why I would wish to do anything of the kind in the first place

Gentlemen please take it down a bit. CNN has been running a quote for an upcoming show they are doing on Lincoln. It has struck me as absolutely profound for here and the world in general.
We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.

Duane, I saw why you took offense at what you thought was a bit of a slap at your post earlier in the thread. I think you made your point. I gave you a thumbs up for pointing it out. I think Chuck attempted to defuse. I would bet you guys could bury via PM. Beth, is correct.
